MazdaSpeed Styled Short Shifters

Hi all,

I'm keen on getting a short shifter for my FD and from looking around I've decided to go a MS one but being discontinued officially, I'm left with the replicas from Mazdatrix and RX7Store.

Has anyone got experience with either product, and/or store that can chime in and suggest which is best?

... Or even provide yet-another-MS-copy which is better than the ones I've found?

Thanks!

I have the pettit version of it and seems good to me

I lost a part of it before though and called mazdatrix for the replacement part so I'm guessing theyre the same

I like the mazdatrix style, but it is a personal preference. The Mazdatrix does not have the rubber isolation in the shaft so it is a more direct feel, but you also feel the vibrations etc ... personal preference.

I've got the B&M Short Shifter, I like it and have had no problems with it since getting it about 3 years ago.

There is an eBay knockoff of the B&M shortshifter that is cut from steel.

I actually like it better than the real B&M...

I believe he's referring to the older version of the Pettit shifter (which is what the RX7Store sells). But it's good to note that the new version is just a cut OEM.

I like the Mazdatrix ss. The C's is also good but I don't like the initial effort to get it out of gear. The C's was just a tad too notchy for my tastes as well. The Mazdatrix was perfect for me. It was just notchy enough and had the right amount of effort to get out of gear. The throws on both were of course greatly reduced from stock.

I have to admit, I liked Andy's short shifter a lot. I currently have a B&M and two C's short shifters, and I may pick up a mazdatrix to finally decide once and for all what shifter I like the most

The new version from pettit is just a stock shifter with the top of the shaft cut & re-threaded. I was also unable to get my stock shift **** to thread onto it because it was cut so short.

Just to add to what Mahjik indicated above, the OLD Pettit design was (IMO) a good replica of the original MS. It had a shortened shaft and raised pivot with about 50% reduction in travel over the OEM. The downside is the shaft wasn't isolated in rubber like OEM. Because of that mine transmits just a little gear noise in 1st and 2nd gear. Don't hear it much after that.
