Mazdaspeed Sports Sound Exhaust

Hey, just have a quick couple of questions about this exhaust. I was looking at the racing beat dual tip, but the videos I was looking at made it sound too dirtbikeish.

I was wondering if this exhaust is something that sounds closer to the rx8 exhaust only better, but hopefully still around the same decibel range as the RB dual tip. Also what kind of hp gains did you see with this exhaust roughly?, and what kind of modifications will have to be made to fit it onto the car?

Pictures would be awesome too.

Thanks guys.

You should grab this if it's still available:

Racing beat exhaust sounds fine. There are ALOT of fd's on this forum with the exhaust. Stop being a woman and just pick an exhaust, its just metal

RB is the farthest thing away from sounding obnoxious that you can get on this car. Everything else sounds like a honda fart can, IMHO...to bratty-ratty. I like it comfortable though, and the RB is just that. Still, others prefer the sound of cans like the Apex'i N1, etc...

I dunno what this business is about the RB system sounding like crap is. On my car it almost sounds like a burbling V8 at idle, Its deep as hell. But, uh i have a very aggressive streetport

Check out the SMB dual tip exhaust. That is a little quieter with a mellower tone than the RB dual tip.

I have a Kakimoto Type R - exhaust.
full 80mm (3,25") Not too loud and beatiful deep tone.
No Honda fart can - sound.

Maybe this exhaust is something for you?!

The St. May's doesn't really look like it fits all that well. The dual tips and mufflers, at least in picture from the FS ad, appear to hang well below the rear valence. And it's too wide for the cut-out. Unlike others, it also doesn't appear to be 100% stainless either. Might sound great, but how does it really fit?

The rear valance does need to be trimmed a bit or it will rub on the tips. The exhaust is wider than the stock exhaust for which the valance was designed. As with anything on this car, something other than stock may require some changes but IMO it's the best exhaust available for this car.

there were a bunch of those st may on sale last year for $300 or so, which i still considered too much considering the build quality/specs.. i dont remember the details too well but the piping is a little narrow and is made of mild steel. fyi the same supply that was available last year is still listed at a popular online marketplace, but the price has been bumped up to $600.. not sure if the guy has even sold any.. even at the old $300 price, if i recall he had 10-15 units available.

Really?, all I have heard is nothing but the best of this exhaust, although the piping may look a little smaller then the racing beat, I am not too sure how much this would affect it, and the quality looks pretty good. I think I was sold on the sound of it though:

By the way, anybody know the weight of it?

It's a fairly heavy exhaust (as to compared to what's out there today). However, all the other benefits out weight that for my purpose. As you have heard, the sound is fantastic.

imo, the only drawback is the weight. it's definately not as heavy as stock, but i switched to the st. may's from the original greddy ti. talk about a weight differance.

...and as far as quality goes, this thing is imaculate. good luck finding one because i'm keeping mine

yeah I am not too concerned about weight, just wondering. I would rather have an exhaust that looks/sounds and performs good thats a bit heavier then a honda fart cannon ( I love making fun of vtec) thats a bit lighter.

Just will have to stay with a half tank of gas to save on weight, hahaha

Good question. I suppose part of it is due to the fact that I personally don't like the way it looks. The first time I ever saw it all I could think of in the back of my mind is "cheap".

Just a personal opinion is all.

Exhaust is just an exhaust. Plain and simple, you get whichever one you think is better for you. I had a HKS carbon TI because I liked how the canister had the CF wrapping.

I realy like the way my RB single tip sounds. Its fairly quiet and it really helped with my airflow. It revs to redline REALLY quick now. It looks damn nice to.
