Thumbs down Mazda reman uses oil pan gasket

Just thought I pass this info on. Didn't see it mentioned anywhere in my search for topics related to the oil pan.
I 'm in the process of going single and had the engine pulled out (Mazda reman purchased from Malloy in 01). While waiting for the single kit to arrive I decided to investigate the oil leak (had it since day one of the installation). After removing the pan I realized they used both the gasket and some form of sealer (reddish orange color). From the BT rebuild video and many threads on this topic I am lead to believe that the best way to prevent oil leak is to use high quality RTV and no gasket at all.
So for those of you who have a reman from Malloy (don't know about others) be aware.

I have a reman made in 9/01 that doesn't leak. (knock on wood)

It seems like a crap shoot. I too have heard that Hondabond and no gasket is the best way to do it (without resorting to an o-ring pan).

This is the first I've heard of a reman having a gasket. Either way, you should always reseal it when you first get it, even before install. Hondabond or The Right Stuff for Imports works great. You could also get a Staff's/Gotham oil pan brace or a Pineapple/A-Spec oil pan.

both of my remans have them. I always use them. If you torque the little 10mm head bolts down"again" AFTER the engine mounts are torqued you will not have an issue. Unless you fubared the pan mating surface when you pryed it off In the end it is personal preference. but i have done too many to count and never had a problem with them since.

This said i also think that a commonly overlooked problem is the o-ring that seals the oil level sensor. (on the side of the oil pan) I had a leak i was searching down on one of those remans and that is what it was. Maybe check that o-ring as it doesn't come in a engine install gasket kit

All remans that I have seen (over 30 by now) have had the gasket. Makes sense, it is an oem part.

Best thing to do w/a reman is to tear it down to make sure everything is proper, even if you don't want to port. I have heard of many build/assy problems with remans lately.

I've got the maz.reman about a month ago. It did have the orangish seal around the pan. As of now, no oil leak found.

I'd like to also add that on the maz reman, we had trouble with placing the ACT clutch because the clutch nut* was different from the older motor. I dont know if this applys to anyone else, but we had to order different clutch nuts from mazda to install the clutch on the mazda reman.
