Mazda Reman Lasting

Whats the general time span of a mazda reman at 280hp range?

How many miles have you guys gotten on remans vs original engines/rebuilt engines?

depends on who does the reman. Remember, most Mazda mechanics in the states suck with rotaries.

My reman... 40k died due to oil starvation from poor sealing of the of oil pan to the block, clogged the pick up tube and choked it.

My reman ran for 30k miles until what looks like a stuck seal put it out of commission. The compression numbers for the most part were still good, the rear rotor was 136,134,135 and the front was 120,119, and 000.

Buying a reman is kinda like playing CRAPS, you roll the dice and hope the results turn out in your favor. I have seen some shady things from Remans. Deal with a shop and you will be much happier in the end, obviously pick the shop wisely.

It may be a stuck side seal which would effect one chamber, I'll know for sure what the problem is when I have it rebuilt.

But even with a stuck side seal, it opened up two faces of the rotor, so wouldn't you still have 2 bad compression numbers in any case?

The reman in mine lasted 26k before it chucked a corner seal.

I'm pretty sure a side seal only seals one chamber.

well I ask because I have a reman that was installed in 2003 by the previous owner. It now has around 45k miles on it and Im just getting nervous...its running stock boost and when I had it comp. year ago it pulled 8.3 lowest number and 9.0 highest on all faces. No coolant issues yet.

Those are pretty good numbers, do you know each of the 6 faces?

no but i know nothing is lower than 8.2-3

what should I start looking out for at this age in the engine? I mean if the compression is good what can possibly go wrong...worn out seal springs or something? Basically what should I expect from an engine with stock boost levels but lots of miles?
