Question mazda reman engines

I bought a seven (FD) about six months ago with a Mazda Reman motor installed before I bought it at a Chevy dealer (yes, that's correct). The engine now has about 7k miles on it. I was just curious about other people's experiences with reman engines. From what I've read so far it seems the average life for one is somewhere around 12k miles. So far my reman motor has seemed strong, though it idles at 1200rpm sometimes after being run for a long period of time, but I think this is due to a different problem. Any response is appreciated. Thanks.

12k...no way. it should last longer than that...probably 60-90k depending of a variety of factors.

Easy now

12k miles is bullshit. I think the basic deal is they moved the rebuild shop what bout a year ago or more and it seems like at that time they pushed some **** out the door. Most people have been getting significantly new motors. My friend who sees mazda remans every day said lately they have almost all had new housings and a lot of new internal parts. I think mine has new housings. I thin you can tell because new housings are not painted with that heavy silver paint on some of the remans. Still I'd go with the comment above. Depends on what you got and how you treat it. A lot of people will cook the water jacket orings before wear really matters.

12K is BS. You read ONE post from ONE guy that had a PFC that wasn't tuned for his mods.

These kinds of post **** me off. Show me the data on your 12K mile reman life. You pretty much came up with that 12K mile figure after reading ONE thread...

well im not going to say that mazda remans are not good, but the ones made about a year ago have to be crap. with 10K on my motor the timing cover seal started leaking. i took it to my mechanic(rick's rotary) and he said that he used to use them for customers. he said that he will no longer get a reman since they are using shortcuts producing them. he reccomends rebuilding what you have. the price difference between a reman and having him build you one is very minimal esp. since you get a lot of new parts(housings) and options such as 3mm apex seals. if i have to do it again in the future, i will not opt for a reman. i will just send it out to pineapple or let rick rebuild it. as far as 12K miles, yes it was just bad luck. his PFC may have ran lean for just that split second, but from what i have read he has not posted anything verifying for sure that the motor is gone. no compression check.

Remans are like any other product: you get some good ones and some bad ones.

I've been on a reman for over 3 years with no problems (from the motor itself that is). Here's another thread on the same topic:

Mines lasted 30k before the the coolant started leaking because the reman engine came with a badly corroded rotor housing that allowed the coolant to go underneath the seal. My friends fd reman lasted two weeks before it started spewing coolant. But some lucky people do get almost brand new remans, and some dont. It all depends on luck.

Best to have a Malloy Reman cracked open and "rebuilt" with reliability mods and some enlarged coolant, oil, intake, exhaust passages. Well at least that's what I did @ KD Rotary and my Malloy Reman. From what Dave told me, my Malloy Reman had 90% new parts. I now have 3000 miles on it. See my sig for mods...

Thanks for the replies everyone. It is much appreciated. I'll take a look for the paint on mine. I would also like to thank Jeff for being every so friendly because I'm sure that he's never had a question about anything before.
