My warranty is going to expire soon. I've heard that it only last a year, but that seems to be from people that "didn't" have theirs rebuilt by Mazda. It's possible, mine is one of the new blocks since it's pretty damn clean compared to other engines i've seen. I've had 25k mi on it so far and one year.

 

ive had my rebuild for 14 months now, 14000 miles, and one of the apex seals is gone- 60,60,90 compression... the warranty is only for 12 months, 12000 miles, and mine is just beyond that. they wont even help pay for a percent of a new replacement. i think a lot of lemons come out from mazda's reman plant.

 

I've been asking about this subject today. So, mazda has a 12 month 12k waranty, or is that just what you bought?

I've been looking into getting an rx7 and slapping in a reman but I'm not sure what kind of reliability to expect. Did you do all the reliabiltity mods and take good care of your motor?

I don't want a lemon from mazda just like anybody else.

I've seen some FD's sitting in the race shop waiting for rebuilds after the Mazda rebuild failed one year later. There was a timeframe where they were really bad but mine was done after that. If it's only 12k mi then it doesn't matter that mine is less than a year. I'll have to double check the paperwork. If yours failed, could you please post if the rebuild was done more than a year ago.

 

get your motor done at rotary reliability and racing 7147314637 and its a 2 year 24k mile warrantee....and you can do a STREETPORT!!

I'm sorry to say that I do not trust the mazda rebuilds.

Both my friend and I decided to get new motors around the same time. He went with the mazda reman and I had a custom engine done at T and R.
He never drives hard and drives only on weekends.

Check this out...I raced my car for the entire racing season and ran low 11s with the car. He drove his only on sunny days. I just got off the phone with him, he thinks the motor is blown.

After seeing this and another incident I really do not trust the rebuilds. One of my other friends bought a Mazda Reman from Malloy to tear apart and port. When he opened the motor he was shocked as to what he saw. He returned the motor and they took it back.

Using a Mazda reman now. Got it about 3 years ago with turbos. It has almost 20k on the reman and no problems.

I only started modding the car last year so the mods haven't been on that long.

 

I have about 30k on mine, and it's doing good.

Mazda reman 6 years, 43k. 2 years (15K) at 12psi on PFC, M2 large, ND pump, new injectors, PFS cat back. It's gone I think ... will have to check with the combustion gas tester.

 

2 years 30K later all is fine

 

It's not lovingly called "The 13 Month Motor" without good reason.

 

ok, if the this mazda-or-whatever-they-call-themselves company is not a good place to turn to, where is a good place to order a good reliable rebuild? has anybody tried http://www.mazdarx7engines.com/ ? their prices seem very reasonable. any other recommendations?

and to date, all is well..yes.. it is a automatic, yes i'm a old fart(55)... however.. i basically drive the car as fast and often as traffic allows...LOL..Carter

 

Mine has over 17k miles on it over a 16 month period, and I have had zero problems with my reman. The motor still pulls strong, has good compression and I get a nice 18-20'' of vac @ idle. I have had all my mods on this motor from day 1 of the install.

 

MANA motors are usually a hit or miss proposition. Some of the motors you get from MANA are good, they have new rotors, new housings, and even new side seals while other motors you get from them are total crap (most of them are). They are assembled somewhere in florida where engine builders are getting paid $8.50 an hour to assemble them. A lot of used parts get reused as long as they "are within spec" and I hear that the used parts don't even get cleaned. Also I hear that some of them are assembled very poorly because sometimes the front cover gasket goes out or the oil pan seal goes bad. Some of them are pretty good. The last MANA motor I had I put 38,000 miles of HARD driving (beating this **** out of it every weekend) and it was still running strong (though it was consuming oil) until an accident happened (don't ask . ). I recently had my mechanic (Ivan from Ivan's autopalce) redo my engine, he put in new rotors, new rotor housings (usually don't come with MANA motors). Even though it costs more than a MANA rebuild, I think it's more worth it to get a better rebuild.

 

Ray at Malloy Mazda told me that with his volume pricing, he sells so many Mazda reman that if he sees a motor with used housing, he'll send it back. He said he sells so many that they know better than to send him motors w/o new rotors and housing. I believe that each time an engine is rebuilt, they're marked with a dot punched into the side of the housing so you can usually tell the difference.




That just means that if you don't buy a Mazda from Ray, you're likely to be screwed with a Mazda reman from other dealer. Rikki posted in the NE forum that his new motor had new housings and rotors except that they left shavings in the oil pan. \

My reman was not from Ray but from Rosenthal Mzda in Vienna, VA. Lasted six years, 43K, although the last four had the water slushing sound upon start up.
