mazda charge me 6k for motor/ pulled my map sensor vac off
hey guys just a heads up to all those people trusting your mazda dealerships to work on your FD, this thread is for u
well last week i been having some idle problems with my FD, it ran like sh*t and spewing fuel everywhere
so i took it to the mazda dealership in lancaster, CA
after closer inspction they came to the conclusion that it was a cracked apex seal
i was like wtf it was running great the day before and they told me "you know rotaries" i was like WTF???
so for a new motor and the labor they charged me 6k, so i been working my *** off with my uncle at his business to make up for the loan he gave me for my car
when i got to the dealer ship to give me them the cash to start the work, i looked at the engine one more time just to see if anything happened to come loose, who would have thought my map sensor vac line came off, i know when i went single i zipped tied all my hoses, look like it had been pulled off purposely since the both zip ties where still on my vac line
one i plugged it back in to the map sensor i cranked the car and it idles perfectly @ 750 and vac it at 16-17.5psi
took the car for a drive it shes back from the dead, the mechanic was amazed that the car had not cracked an apex seal and was dumbfounded
i should have taken a pic of his face he was pale white, cuz he knows that he pulled off that hose off the map sensor
what bitches, the weird thing is that i used to work there and had great relations with everyone and for them to do this **** over money....
i felt like **** and felt used!!!
of course they tried to say all these apologies and crap but i said dont bother
be carefull of fraudulent mazda dealers, try to go to a rotary speacialist but still be aware
thanx to this forum, i knew what to check for
sorry if i posted this on the wrong section, but i just wanted everone to see it

why the hell would you take it to the dealership in the first place?!?!?!?!? They wont warrantee the work anyway... look at your mods O.o?

I guess I don't understand...
You took it there because it was having the problems you mentioned and you think THEY pulled the MAP vacuum line loose?
It sounds to me like they were just stupid (as service depts. tend to be) and missed that, but it was off when you took the car in.

they didnt seem to mine the single, they just noticed the intercooler
i didnt say i went in their for a warranty since it been 2 yrs when i got my reman
i trusted them since they did previous services for my car
just relieved that i didnt have to pay 6k and got a free oil change
Bottom line is with any shop, i'd never accept a blown motor diagnosis based on somebody just looking at it. I'd want to see a compression test slip, done with a proper mazda tester, to verify.
i went to the dealership when i first got my car for a compression check. they told me i needed a new engine. . . even though the numbers were all close to each other. i went up there and got curious. . . "how much is this going to cost me?" the guy said, "we have a service ticket here for you to check out." i looked at it. . . and laughed. they wanted 15k to replace the engine in my car. the reason. . . i had too many aftermarket items on my car and they would have to replace them all in order to be able to complete the work and warranty it.
15K!!!!!!!! thats crazy. . . im sure they were just trying to get me to trade it in on a miata or something.

i can tell a bad apex seal just by the way it cranks.
good looking out mike thats BS they didnt spot that first off, when i had a shop do a motor for me i bought 3mm apex seals and payed almost 400 extra for it and when i blew they damn thing on the rebuild we noticed only 2mms sigh

I don’t understand either, I don’t see how you can call the dealership dishonest, when it was obviously incompetence.
That's nice, and i'm sure others can too, but none of you would seperate me from $4500 unless you did an $80 compression test to verify.

I honestly wish that you would have gotten screwed out of some cash since you like to play with everybody elses money on this forum. Karma is a bitch Mike.

i think the idle problem was another problem
but when i went to see the car later vac line on the map sensor was not connected, the car didnt even want to idle and was sounding like a bridgeport
thats why they concluded that it was an apex seal
then i pointed out to them when i found out
then i cranked the car and took the mecahnic for a test drive
it was fine again

and showing you broken seals still wouldn't convince you?
I don't get it. Was the vacuum hose connected before you took the car to the dealer because your idle was bad?
If yes, then how did putting it back fix your idling problems?
If no, why the hell didn't you check this before going to a dealership?
I don't understand why someone who performed their own single install would bring their car to the dealership because it idles poorly. This isn't just another Angie-type story to make people say "aww poor rotoboy," is it?

Mike, I don't believe you did that??
It doesn't matter where you go. I saw I guy at another shop saying his turbos were dead. So he bought a brand spanking new turbos from mazda. After install and paying up the *** later finds out he had a torn x-over coupler?? I was also in the same situation. But luckily I figured it out.
You can call it bad mechanics, dishonest or whatever.
Comes down to it with these cars, you got to be able to diagnose these minor problems yourself before forking the cash..period. This forum is the place I go first for any problems I have with my cars. And I can't thank all who have contributed.

$80 compression test? I beleive I paid $35.
The dealer will "ALLWAYS" claim a new engine because then they don't know how to work on it and it's easy money. Maybe they think rotary owners are just as stupid as they are. Last time I went to a dealer they overfilled the crank case by one quart assuming I had an R2. It leakes oil (obviously) and they said my block was cracked. I checked the dipstick at home and drained a quart.

****** fuman always makes me laugh.
It's easy to mistake a stupid dealer for a devious one. Jupiter, would you have expected a dealership to catch a torn turbo crossover coupler, or eve know what it is?
I would hope most 3rd Gen owners would know better than to bring their car to anyone who hasn't got a proven track record.
