Masive boost loss...what happened?
1stly, i got my rx7 3 days ago. 1st thing i did was vent the stock bov to the atmosphere. Ok so yestderday i was at the lights when this Surpa puled up next to me..i thought id give him a run so i let it go. 1st came on strong and saw me shift to 2nd @7-8psi. 2nd was pulling with the primary turbo and when the engine crossed the 4500 mark and the secondary turbo came on the boost went up split second then dropped all of a sudden to like 3psi, the bov was hissing like i had let off the gas even tho i was flat to the floor????
Anyone know whats going on?
thanx

Check the couplers on the intake and intercooler hoses, along with the coupler on the y-pipe. More than likely you either blew the hose off completely or blew a hole in it. I'd check those first...they tend to fail pretty quickly.

I checked the lines and couldnt find anything. Just took it for another drive. 1st time it boosted with the primary then 3psi with hiss on secondary. 2nd time got 8psi with both turbos, 3rd time 8psi with primary and 3 with secondary..
I think i need to take it to the shop.

No, it won't make a difference for our cars. I have done if for a long time, and I know of a lot of other people who have done it, too. Blown turbos?? Probably not. How many miles? If your turbos were dead, I would think you wouldn't even be getting 3 psi. You could have a vacuum leak somewhere. Also, checking connections isn't really good enough. you have to inspect the couplers for cracks, which involves taking them off and looking really closely. Also, you might want to try this:
switch the BOV and the CRV. The CRV and BOV are the same part, so if you switch them it might be able to tell you something. Drive with them switched and see if the problem now occurs on the primary turbo. If so, then the valve is bad.
If all else fails, take it to a ROTARY SPECIALIST and have them look at the turbos to see if they are OK. The stock DP (not sure if you have that or not) creates a lot of heat on the secondary turbo, which causes it to fail more quickly.

hmm so i guess what i will try first is putting the BOV back to stock. Then checking all the lines and stuff couplers (i just need to get her up on a hoist). and i guess if worse comes to worse i'll just take her into mazda cause the motor's still on warranty (only got like 3 or 4000 kms (?miles) ). as far as rotory specialists go the nearest one is just a short 25 hour drive away so thats kind of out of the question (damned living in the middle of no-where) do you think a turbo specialist would be able to tell if the turbo went bad?? because there is one around here.
thanks for all your help by the way

Possibly...I don't know. MAKE SURE that if you take it back to a dealer, and they give you **** about "well, we didn't replace the turbos, so it's your fault" tell them to **** themselves and fix it. Our local dealership tried to do that kind of stuff to me, and I came ][ that close to punching them in the face. More than likely, if you're out in the middle of nowhere, the dealership people haven't replaced one of those before so they might have done something wrong. What part on Canada are you from? Check the regional section for the part you are in and see if there are any other FD owners near you. Then PM them or start a thread asking if someone might not mind meeting you somewhere and looking at it for you. Best of luck

Ya i'm figuring the dealer has little to no experience on rotaries (turbo's especially). Im from saskatoon saskatchewan (...anybody else) there is only one other FD that i know of here and he is just some rich old man who'd never know wut he was doing anyway. But i found a hoist so i'll be lookin deeper into it today and i'll update u on what the problem was and how i fixed it (thats if i can find it which i really hope i do)
