my friend uses this as premix and swears by it... But is this even really doing anything??? I'm not to sure on its characteristics

Also he has his OMP disabled.


and if its not usable ...

What can I use , I'm running out of the stuff I bought .

and I was looking for something I could buy locally and cheaply until I can order some more.

MMO is as much a solvent as a lubricant. So while it might be helping keep things clean in the fuel system, it's not a good pre-mix. I'm with Renesis...get some decent 2 cycle and be done with it.

 

I've used the Walmart Synthetic 2 stroke for a couple years (as have others) with no issues. Whether you go Idemitsu or Walmart get the 2 stroke.

 

Try it let me know how it goes.

 

 

Idemitsu makes some very nice rotary-specific pre-mix that isn't very costly.

Oh, and did you search? There have been many (many) threads about MMO as premix in the past. I know, I've posted in them like 7 times

hey in my defense I did search! its just that well... I wrote marvel mystery oil and didnt put MMO , and marvel mystery oil together til just now LOL .

 

Agree, MMO can clean things up but prolly inadequate as premix. I use Lucas Semi-Synthetic 2cyl, fairly cheap and readily available at local parts stores(Advanced Auto, Oreillys)... Lucas Semi Synthetic 2-CYCLE Oil : Lucas Oil

 

I use the same stuff. Easy container to pour too.

Curious what ratios is everyone doing? W/O OMP.

 

lets do some math(using west coast 91 octane pump gas in calculations and assuming that lubrication oil does nothing for combustion):

128:1 ratio premixing with 2 stroke oil(1oz per gallon)

128 ounces= 1 gallon
1/128=.0078 dilution ratio
.0078X91AKI pump gas octane=.7109 coefficient
.7109-91octane= 90.29 final octane rating

at least that sounds accurate, if someone believes my math to be incorrect then feel free.


now whether it actually does offset the octane may be a different story... is it inert when burning or does it actually reduce the knock suppression when mixed with the fuel.

add water to the mix and you raise the knock suppression level, similar to raising octane rating but water does not burn so adds no power but does buffer knock.

now consider alcohol, higher octane than pump fuels. then gasoline as our static. then diesel which is derived from convetional oil has a rediculously low level of about 20octane. i would figure most oils are going to be lower than diesel near 0 and will actually hurt the octane of the fuel it is mixed with.

 

If you're really worried about your octane, throw in 2 gallons of av-gas.

 

No OMP = 1oz per gallon

Yes OMP = 0.5oz per gallon

Perhaps... There are far smarter people on here than I who have probably discussed this at length. My numbers are just what I've read as the general consensus.

But I would also think that the majority of highly ported motors/ high revving rotarys probably have their OMP deleted anyways.
