Manual boost controller experiences . . .

Hi, i'd like to get some input from members on the forum who have manual boost controllers (Particularly members who have similar mods as my rx7). I have a Automatic and would like to keep the "hold" feature so a ECU won't do. Thanks guys!

I have a "Home Depot" needle valve controller. Installation was pretty easy. Just pull the intake out of the way, and swap the wastegate line out with the one with the controller in it. Adjustment took about 45 minutes. I wanted to make sure that I didn't get too much boost, so I adjusted it slowly. That meant making a run, stopping the car, popping the hood, and turning the valve for each adjustment. Once I got it where I wanted it, its done. Just leave it alone, and don't worry about it ever again. The nice thing about the needle valve is that there are no moving parts or electronics that might go bad. If you opt for the needle valve, DO NOT install the prespool controller!! Adjustment is virtually impossible with two valves.

Another nice thing about the needle valve controller is that you can make one for about $7

I just went non-sequential, and I'm about to install a manual boost controller, because right now it's only running 8psi..

Feels stock-ish.. :/

So I'm gonna turn it up to 10-11.

No leaks, creeps, or overboosting either.

It's nice to have PREDICTABLE boost.

I followed the design that Damien did a couple of years ago and built a ball and spring valve (2 of them) ... works like a charm, absolutely rock solid boost control ... even with intake, DP, MP and CB.

Go for it!

I have perfectly predictable sequential boost. Works right every time

I didn't give up quickly. Tried to get them working right for about 6 weeks. I finally decided that the long hose in the prespool valve was the cause of the problem. Recently, I swapped out the wastegate (larger orifice) pill into the prespool line. That changed my transition boost from 8 to 9, which helped a little.

Wrong.. I had mine adjusted perfectly with two ball & spring controllers, 14-12-14 pattern, and adjustment wasn't hard at all. Took maybe a day of messing around with.

Adam c's were needle valve controllers. I use the ball/spring controllers on both PC and WG, as you did - again, credit to Damian.

Read my post before passing judgement!! It refers to the needle valves.
