Malloy Mazda or Mazdaformance?
Was about to order a bunch of stuff, mostly small stuff but the guy I used to deal with at Mazdaformance isn't there anymore and the other guys don't know jack and aren't helpfull. I've never ordered from Malloy before. Has anyone ordered from both and know the price comparisons and service?
Their service is great. Shipping is free and they move it out fast. Stuff not in stock is nearly as fast since they drop ship it to you. Ray is also an elephant when it comes to the parts in FDs. He remembers some part numbers off the top of his head, and he knows everything you're talking about without looking at the parts fiche.
As for prices, call and check the prices for yourself. Make sure you mention the club discount. They are the best I have access to.

Well Mazdaformance is now only 93-95 OEM parts to. Since the guy quit (forgot his name) they no longer sell Efini/JDM nor Mazda Comp' parts any more. They don't know RX7's and don't have anything memorized, nor will they look it up. I used to be able to just describe the part but not any more.
Here's the deal on Mazdaformance. I used to order a LOT of stuff from them after my Mazdacomp membership lapsed. Got the right part every time, shipped quick, fair price. I always dealt with Brian - he was a fellow RX-7 nut, REAL sharp, knew all the parts cold.
Well, Brian has been booted upstairs to management, and they have a bunch of new guys handling parts orders now. The last 2 orders I made with them I had to handhold the parts guys through the process. Also, the next to last order I made was shipped to my old address - no big deal, my old roommates looked out for the box and I got it. The last order I made I commented on that and told them to make sure of the shipping address - nope, they still shipped it to my old address.
Mazdaformance does have some good closeout deals and stuff on their webpage, and right now they've got some killer deals on shop manuals. But, I think I'm done with ordering from them, sad to say, unless they can get some better parts guys. Good parts guys have got to be REAL damn hard to find I'm sure.
My next parts order will be with Malloy - I've yet to call Ray up, but I've always heard good things, so it's their turn for my business
.
Mazdatrix is a great company and an "old guard" with RX-7's. But, their prices on stock parts are just too damn high - they charge dealer retail for parts. But, from the bunches of parts I've bought from them, I've always had great service and a pleasant experience.
I've ALWAYS been disappointed buying parts from a dealer. Most times the parts guy just gives you whatever answer gets you out the door fastest, which usually means "naw, you have to buy the whole dash for $5000 to get that part, you can't buy it separate" or some BS answer like that. I have used the local dealer for VERY simple, relatively inexpensive parts, like OEM thermostats and AC O-rings - that's about it. You're a fool if you rely on a local dealer for parts, period.
Haven't ordered from Mazdacomp in a while, but always had GREAT experiences with them back in the day. They knew RX-7 parts cold, stuff got shipped out quick, and it's impossible to beat COST for the price. That's the best reason to get off your can and autocross twice a year - you'll save a ton on parts and get the right parts quick. But, there's some stuff that they typically won't sell, like interior parts, that I'd go to Malloy or the like for. But, I have talked them into selling me certain parts in the past
. Just gotta build a good relationship with the guys there.

yes. They can keep it on file with your address if you want. Then parts orders take like 3 minutes. Oh, and Ray might also remember you by voice if you make a few orders. I'm telling you, memory of an elephant.

I called Malloy and asked for Ray and the prices seemed good, so I placed my order.
$110 for FPD, M'Trix (local) $140, Dealer (local) $160. Still waiting for Mazdaformance price.
When I was doing my 5th gear synchro, I came across a busted bearing (rear countershaft bearing) and needed new ones quick. Here's my experience with purchacing:
Mazda Dealer- Didn't really understand which bearing I was talking about. After a few minutes of explaining, he said I'd have to come down and point out which it was on the parts fiche, and even then, he could only order two bearings, the rear and another. PRICE: $23 for one and $67 for the other.
Mazdatrix- I didn't think they'd have it but gave them a shot. They didn't have it.
Mazdaformance- Similarly to the dealer, the guy wasn't understanding exactly what I was looking for. Finally he figured it out. PRICE: retail $57 but gave me the club price so it would be $45 plus shipping.
Malloy Mazda- I got a hold of Ray and told him I was referred from the forum. I then told him I need a couple price quotes (I was just getting quotes on some other stuff I needed at the time... door handle, headlight cover..) so he said go ahead. I did and he said ok. There was no explaining to him what bearing I needed, I said the name and he knew exactly what I was talking about. He came back within minutes and gave me the prices. PRICE: $12 (Oh and they got it to me in 3 days, I live in AZ and they're in VA, that is some damn fast shipping.)
Conclusion: I think I'll stick to Malloy myself.

Ray is the best. For oem parts he's the way to go. Now Mazdatrix is great for racing parts and if you need special help. Great web site. Dave is also a lot of help on the racing forums.

I hate to be redundant but Ray surely is the best. I hope Malloy is aware of the great treasure he is to that company. I send everbody I know to Malloy to deal with Ray, whether it be for RX7, Miata or 626 parts.
ray has by far been the best person that i've ever done business with concerning my car. he always remembers who i am, always know exactly what i need, and always gets things to me quick. i just got a box from them a couple days ago and got a free frisbee. i've also gotten free stickers, keychains, and an oil filter before. when it comes to OEM, if you buy from anyone else, you have no sense!
I've heard nothing but praise about Ray at Malloy since i joined this forum. I haven't actually ordered anything from him yet, but I'm planning on ordering bushings and radiator hoses from him for my winter projects when the FD is garaged.
