Cool Making and mounting steel braided oil lines?

The cut from the store isn't perfectly strait, so can I sand it down or grind it with a dremel or snadpaper? It will bug me if it's not perfectly flush.

Shove the hose inside the fitting all the way to the end? Then insert the nipple "inside" the hose and fitting and screw titght? Is there any plumbers tape (forgot what it's called) needed for a secure leak free fit?

Did anyone reuse the oil line holder from the stock lines or did you buy new ones and where did you screw them to?

Where did you mount the thermastat?

Did anyone use a banjo fitting with the oil temp sensor tapped in to the bolt instead of the Aeroquip elbow fittings?

How did you cut the line? Garden shiers or Sears Surecut scissors ok?

Doing your own stainless is a bitch! And I would think that 1" hose your using is even harder that the 6 and 8 AN I have done. I use a dremmel to cut mine but I am not really sure I'd advise doing it that way. The only trick I can explain in writing is I use a hose clamp about 1/4" from the end of the hose. Tighten up the clamp until the hose is compressed and the start the fitting on it. Take the clamp off and then work the fitting down. Of course that may not work on 10AN.

I have heard of people using a bolt cutter - but I could bring myself to buy one.

Oh and no plumbers tape on fittings unless they are NPT.

Good luck,

hacksaw or cut off wheel

no plumbers tape, they're AN fittings....they have a 30deg radius on the end that seals them

ok, do you leave the end taped up or remove when installing the fittings?

Do you guys have them hanging loose or you held them down with those rubber clamp things that wrap around and have a metal tab with a hole to screw them to the block?

you can leave the tape on, i usually do...but if you wrap too much tape on it, it will not fit in the fitting

clamp where possible, you want to secure the lines well

i alwasy take the tape off, but it probably dosent matter too much.

depending on how far the line has to run i will clamp it down. But they are usually pretty good at holding their place.

They have a 37 degree angle on the end.

Remove any tape before inserting the line into the socket and tightening to the nipple.

Most hose ends assemble the same way. This is from Russell You should also put a mark on the hose braid after you've inserted the hose into the socket. That way when you tighten it onto the nipple you can verify that the hose didn't push back out.
