Sounds like the recall that was on a previous thread. It shook me enough to make a text copy and put it my archive so I don't forget about it.
Seems that there was a recall on the early 1993 Third Gens that when you drove your car too hard, didn't cool it off, the coolant can boil over and pool on the lower intake. Dripping on the exhaust manifolds of the turbos it ignites and catches the car on fire.
Recall only put an alarm and light on the filler neck to tell you that coolant is missing in the engine. The expected culpret was the turbo exhaust manifolds but it seems that it was cheaper to put the alarm on rather then replace the turbo manifolds which were redesigned for the later models. Redesign was attributed to easier maintenance.
So if that coolant gets hot and that alarm goes off, stop and check it out!! That or put a single on!

Recall #1 - Coolant Recall
The coolant recall involved the replacement of some cooling system parts with stronger/more heat resistant materials and lowering the pressure of the cooling system from 1.3 bar to .9 bar. The parts replaced were the water pump seal, the water level sensor, the upper radiator hose, the filler cap, the filler cap body, the thermostat gasket, the water hose leading to the throttle body, and the water hose leading to the coolant separator tank.
Recall #2 - Fuel Recall
The fuel line recall involved replacing the fuel lines under the intake manifold with lines made from a more heat resistant material, and adding a fan control unit that runs the cooling fans if the coolant gets too hot, even if the car is turned off.
Recall #3 - Brake Recall
The brake recall involves the replacement of a vacuum check valve and hose leading to the brake booster. The original unit may stick when oily and cold, preventing power assist under braking.
The fuel recall is probably the one you were thinking of, which involved leaking and pooling of fuel on the lower intake manifold, which could catch fire if it came into contact with the exhaust/turbos.
There were also a few cars that had their batteries explode, a result of the intense underhood heat, and almost certainly directly attributable to the pre-catalytic converter, but this was apparently not common enough to warrant a recall, or sufficiently troubling to cause Mazda to rethink the inclusion of the pre-cat.

Apparently you can call Mazda Customer Service at at (800) 222-5500 with your vehicle's VIN, and they can tell you if all of the recalls pertaining to your model have been resolved. I'm not sure if that number is current, I grabbed it from the 3rd generation FAQ, which is where the recall descriptions came from also.

I mentioned the battery before, but not everyone beleived me ...get a battery wrap or gel battery!
I new about the pre-cat but was stupid and procrastinated the down pipe and now i'm paying the price.
On the bright side, you can get a mountable small car fire estinguisher from Orchid hardware for only $12. I bought one, since my turbos are now leaking.
