Maintaining a RX-7.. how much?

Hey there, I was thinking of purchasing a RX-7 soon and wanted to know how much am I looking at to maintain one? yearly? Ive heard that it adds up, but is there anyway to possibly cut down the cost by upgrading certain components in the engine? Or is it always going to cost a pretty penny to keep? Any info is helpful. Thanks--

Well doing the reliability mods will lower the costs a bit, if you stay stock after those. But there will always be more to come. Someone will come along and post the usual links that you can read up on. I don't have them on-hand.

well, the maintenance is always going to be pretty pricey, even after you do some reliability mods. gas, oil, insurance, stuff like that adds up. and if you install the parts yourself, you will save money on labor.

and the reliability mods don't really cut the cost down, the just make the care more reliable, so you hopefully won't have to rebuild an engine/turbos.

spend the extra $$$ on a low mileage FD and it will save you big $$ in the long run. In three years i have spent $0 in maintenance cost other then oil and fluid changes! My Fd pumping out more then 300rwhp has been the most reliable car i have owned. Actaully i think i am about to spend alittle as my front passenger's side caliber is making noise and i think it is a frozen piston.
Anyways most of the horror stories are from people that spent 12k on the fd when it had alot of miles and those were probably beat on miles. What do you expect?
Buy the car from someone who didnt mod or track it!

just like matty said, spend more money and get a good low mileage FD, I have put over 10k miles on mine since Ive had it, and all I have done is change the oil. what will cost you money is adding all of the performance goodies. Thats where all of my money went to. BUT you can save a lot of money by buying used parts from your forum buddies. ALL of the parts ive put on my car are used(incl. wheels and tires). I have put less than $1K into the car. (let everyone else take the depreciation on the new parts!!!)

Assuming its running well when you get it, $2k/year is a safe bet. Depends on how much and how hard you drive it, but I'm just averaging everything I've read over the past 2 years and my own experiences, then adding a bit for safety, to get that figure. There have been some polls about this, do a search. Oh yeah, if you get addicted to mods, well, god help you...

I believe for typical maintainance cost you are charged 2 appendages. The usuallly like the arm and the leg.
