M2 Ecu Vs. Pfc

Im looking to upgrade my ECU but still can't decide between The PFC and the M2 reprogrammed ECU. I have a DP, CB and intake. I won't be upgrading my car at all after this point, so I was thinking about the M2 more than the PFC but I've heard some stories about the risk of reprogrammed ECU's w/o the programmer of the ECU actually looking or dynoing the car. Cause Im planning to ship my ECU and get it back through mail. Is anyone using reprogrammed ECU's that was done through mail? Is it just plug it back in and drive? Or is it more complicated than it is... Thanks guys.
Also, How hard is it to install a lightweight flywheel?

get the pfc. i have similar mods and was also debating between the m2 and pfc. with the pfc and commander you get to monitor boost, intake temp, water temp, etc., which to me is worth it alone. plus if you ever do decide to get more stuff done you can tune it without getting is reprogrammed again by m2.

I have an M2 ECU with the same upgrades as you and it performed great until I replaced my engine then it had more of an exaggerated boost drop between turbos (6psi and slower return to full). I checked everything myself again, had the rotary specialists take a look at everything and make sure everything was right and they said it was the computer. So I mailed it back to M2 and said that it was having exessive boost drop between turbos. They looked at it, tested it on one of their cars and said it was fine. Then I tried the computer on one of my friend's FDs and it did the exact same thing as mine. Kind of pisses me off, but I'm going single turbo and I'll need a new computer anyway. If I were you I'd still just spend the extra money and get the PFC, more versatile even if you stay with the twins.

PFC because even though if you get it mailed and programed for you....it's still just a reprogrammed ecu BUT you do have the commander to tinker with it a bit.

But of course the best would be to get the PFC dyno'ed on your car.

I am running the M2 reprogrammed ECU.
Initially my boost was way too high.
A little work with wastegate and pre-control pills was required to dial my boost down to 11-9-10.
By no means should you expect the boost to be right, with out some sort of boost control measures bieng taken. Pills, Home Depot valves or electronic controller will be necessary with a reprogrammed ECU.
Power FC supoosedly can control boost on its own.

I would get a Power FC ONLY if you are going to have it dyno tuned. Otherwise, I think you are taking too much of a risk. M2 and Petit reporgrammed ECU's are proven to work well and have a good mix of saftey and power. Also, you can pass smog with the reprogrammed ECU. My car passed smog as it sits right now with all mods (Stage 3 w/ stock cat) in place.

The PFC becomes costly when you factor in the mandatory dyno tuning. Someday when I have enough extra cash and time I will get either a PFC or AEM ecu AND a dyno tuning session by an experienced shop. The only reason bieng that I would then be in a position to upgrade my turbos.

Check this thread:

Then think about your goals for the car. After that, you should know what's better for you.

THE CLUTCH question, remove the trans is not complex ,remove the fly wheel is easy if you can get the correct tools . also put in a new rear main seal.

PFC!!

I have an m2 reprogrammed ECU and now I'm switching over to a PowerFC. It will give you more flexibility in the future.

Here is Pettit's ECU upgrade

EM-PE-ECU100-102 ECU UPGRADE
Pettit Racing has several stages of computer modifications now available. Each stage is matched to different engine modifications. Countless hours of dyno and track testing with many different performance levels were used to develop these programs. Once modified, program chips plug in and can be easily changed providing you with the best combination of reliability and performance available. This ECU will have a boost limit of 14psi. Core charge extra, or use your own.
* Must specify year of vehicle. 93 = EM-PE-ECU100, 94 = EM-PE-ECU101, 95 = EM-PE-ECU102 699.00

EM-PE-ECU103 PETTIT UNLIMITED ECU CHIP UPGRADE
Plug in chips in matched stages. Price is for each chip. For use with EM-PE-ECU100-103

So You buy the frist for 699 then for 49 more you get the unlimited. Someone to break it down to me.

Start with the M2 and trade up to a PFC later

Start with the M2 and "trade-up" to a PFC later:

I started really modding my car a year+ ago, when I only had intakes and a cat back on my car. I then found this forum and proceeded to research all the bolt on's. I decided that I'd go with the reprogrammed ECU's because they are just "plug and play". I ended up with the M2 Stage 3, paid $450+ for it. Then I bolted on a dp, boost controller, high-flow cat, Large SMIC, hks twin power ignition, fuel pump, cold air intake.

And, I still haven't popped my motor(knock on wood) Thanks to the "saftey" factor built into the fuel maps of the M2 ECU.

Now, that I have done all that I can I do with stock turbos and all the bolt-on's. It's now time for me to "graduate" to a PFC where I can "lean-out" my a/f mixture to extract ALL the hp/potential out of my motor. And I know that I can get $400+ for selling my M2. I just need to find a good "tuner" w/ access to a dyno to properly and safley "tune" my car.

Just my .02

John
