An ECU is only as good as it's intended use.

For instance, would an M2 ECU be a good choice to get the car to 500rwhp? No

However, if you are looking for something that is "plug and play", and will get you in the low 300rwhp numbers, then it's a decent choice.

^ like mahjik said, it is a good ecu for basic bolt ons minus midpipe for 300ish hp. if your goals are bigger then a measily 300, a tunable ecu i would keep in mind.

Yeah, Brian @ M2 said it can be used up to 13psi with 93 or higher octane gas.

If you have all the bolt on goodie with an upgraded fuel pump its good for 14.5psi on stock twins. The M2 runs on the rich side so you dont have to worry about burning the motor up as much.
Bolt on stuff would include dp, high flow cat, and muffler, air box, radaitor, and I/C. Ive had mine now for 2 years and could no be happier.

Like the other said its a great plug and play ECU but not for radical upgrades.

My car ran way too rich with it & would break up over 6k rpms. I only put out 252hp @ 12psi with all the usual bolt ons. Not a happy camper.

Bought a Power FC & dyno tuned it to 298hp @ 12psi.
M2 ecu adds too much gas in some cars. Plus I still got the 3k stumble from time to time.
The Power FC took care of that too.

You spend more, but get more....

If you are on stock ports, it ain't going to happen on a reprogrammed ECU like the M2/Pettit or others. It will only happen with a programmable ECU like the Power FC/Haltech or others.

Thats not a bad price but you need to find out what the ECU was tuned for. It would not do you any good if all it was for bolt on goodies you dont plan to have or wont have when you plug it in.

I THOUGHT THE M2 ECU WAS PRE-TUNED FOR STAGE 3 ONLY (INTAKE,EXHAUST,IC) ?
THEY ALSO TUNE FOR STAGE 1 AND 2?

350rwhp isn't possible with bolt ons and increased boost with M2 ECU Stage III? No way, I'll be the first one to do it then!!

Check this thread:

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hreadid=259617

The Pettit ECU's aren't as conservative as the M2's. Even at 16 PSI with stock ports he didn't break 350rwhp (using the Pettit ECU). However, RTS3GEN has a ported motor using the Pettit ECU and dyno'd at 15 PSI at 359rwhp.

On stock ports, I don't think it's going to happen.

When I ordered mine from M2 they asked what I had done to it. I would imagine they program it to what you have, but I might be wrong.

I only dyno'd 310 rwhp (272 on a Mustang dyno) running the following:

M2 ECU
HF CAT
DP
Catback
intake
HKS Twin Power Ignition Amp
M2 Lg. SMIC
@ 13psi & stock ports
Supra Fuel Pump

I have dynoed at 284hp with all the goodies in my sig.
And the IC was cold during these runs due to the large vent they put infront of the car. I think it is low, as it is not measured at the wheels. My friend in his tuned 300ZX dynoed at 320hp whereas his mods are good for about 400hp.

So talking about horsepower numbers on different dynos is not relevant

And we are aproximately same in acceleration.

P.S.: John, enjoying every bit of it. Exept for the 3k RPM hesitation I got with this ECU Doesnt bother me much.

Honestly, it's not going to matter much unless you want to get the car around 320-340rwhp. At that point, the Pettit should have the edge in a little higher performance.

For what you are looking to do, just find whichever one you can pick up used at a good price.

ok, now I am planning to get an ECU, but I am concerned that I only have stage 1 mod done on my rx7. Is the M2 ECU conpatible with all stages 1,2 and 3? or they program the ECU depending on what stage the car has been modified up to?

I am concerned because in future, I'd like to goto stage 2 and 3. But I'm worried if i'd have to get the M2 ECU reprogramed totall of 3 times. And that would suck!

Can anyone tell me if they only have one type of M2 ECU or They actually modifiy the ecu everytime you add stuff on.

And upto what cm^2kg of boost can the M2 ECU manage.

Sorry to hear that you now have 3k hesitation. I never had that when ran that ECU. And I don't have it now with my PFC. I guess each FD is different.
