m2 ast elimination (instructions?)

I just got it today and I looked at it, can't figure out where/how it goes on there. Anyone done this or have any idea? I will post a picture later. THanks

This is a picture of what comes in the kit (plastic expansion thing, rubber o-ring, and a cap). Anyone know where it goes?

I did mine like this:

1) Take off the stock water neck cap and put on the M2's with new o-ring.

2) Take off the AST

3) Connect the hose from the coolant reservoir to the AST to the M2.

4) Connect the hose coming from the middle of the radiator to the nipple on the water pump housing below the radiator cap neck.

That's it!

You need to remove your stock filler neck & replace it with the M2 "plastic expansion thingy". That o-ring goes between the replacement filler neck (the "thingy" above) & the base it bolts onto. The nipple from the new filler neck goes to the overflow coolant reservoir (the plastic bottle below the right headlight). Just push on the same hose that's there now. There's one hose leading to the bottom of the radiator from the underside of the AST that needs to be blocked off.

Oh, almost forgot, also plug or block off that nipple
below the filler neck that originally went to the AST. Timmy above actually joined it to the hose going to the bottom of the rad, but I think that would mix hot coolant coming from the engine with cooled coolant at the bottom of the rad.

Sidestick, you are absolutely correct. I didn't have any 3/8" block to fill in the hoses and I don't trust just capping the nipples fearing the pressure will blow out the cap and made things even worse, so I connected them both in the mean time. I did however reasoned that alot of hot coolant will be entering the radiator in the middle and not getting cooled as much as it should be, so one of these days when I am not lazy I'll buy some 3/8" studs and plug those hoses together.

In the mean time the car has been running fairly cool at 82 deg C at cruising and 87-90 deg in extreme hot weather as well as after heat soaked after parking the car on short stops.

well apparently his coolant neck is some sort of differant one. i sent him a picture of mine to try to help, and his is totaly differant. where ours can unbolt at the top to put the kit on, his is just a solid piece, no way to put on the new piece. the only thing i can figure he can do is drill a hole on the neck he has and tap in a nipple to plug the hose onto.

You cant just tap a hole in there because you wont be able to put a radiator cap on it, it wont seal. I know exactly what you are talking about. I had the same problem, you will have to replace the complete thermostat housing, the thing that the ask kit bolts onto. I replace mines but have yet to order the Mazda part to do the ast elimination. I bet you friend has a rebuilt motor, like my car has. Supposely the thermostat housing that is one piece is from Japan. Maybe the later 95s came with them, i'm not sure about that though.

yep yep! I have a new motor, like 9k miles or so. Do I just purchase the stock thermostat housing at the mazda dealership or can I get it somewhere else? Why did they change it??? I swear, just my luck

Well all I did was attach a short piece of the stock hose to both the nipples on the neck & on the radiator, secured them with .25" hose clamps & just plugged the ends with a bolt & same hose clamps. A side benefit of this is I can now fill my radiator from the bottom thru the hose with a funnel stuck in there. This I find gets out a lot more of the air than if I fill it thru the filler neck. The setup ain't pretty, but it works well.
