luckyest sob with FD
yea thats me.
why?
well i have a R1 FD with streetport, 3" DP, apexi airfilters and 3" catback, the rest is stock.
So far so good.
the not so good part is that in late september i had 1.2bars of constant boost and a boost peak at 1.4bar @4500.
and i have NOT blown my engine.
Thats why im the luckyest sob with a FD.
dont you all agree??
So now this vinter im gonna make sure i get back to stock boost patters.

mmmm stock ecu and stock turbos.
didnt even think one could get that kinda boost without some safeguard kickin in.
ill put in a PopOfValve this vinter to ensure not getting more then stock boost.
cant afford a new ecu right now =(

Your engine is probabily blown, but you've managed to get rid of ALL the apex seals so you just think its still healthy because your arent getting the sympoms of a blown motor from 1 apex seal issue.
Isnt 1.2 psi like 15PSI?
Anything over 12psi for ~2 seconds (or 1.5 or something) results in a fuel cut by stock ecu, correct?
Hell, won't a port job on a stock ecu blow a motor?

Dizzy, what year is your car? Were RX-7's sold in Sweden, or did you import it? It might be possible that your car has the 16-bit ECU, which might be able to compensate for the increased boost.
As far as I know, the factory ECU (for the 92-95 models) will cut fuel if the boost exceeds 13-14psi.
Either way, your turbos are not designed with 14-15 psi in mind, I'd recommend decreasing the boost if possible.

buy yourself a boost controller ASAP. You can get them for around US$200. I have had much luck with the Profec B Spec I. I got mine used on Yahoo from a guy named JapAndy or something to that affect. He can ship to you in Sweden pretty cheaply.

I think there is no way your engine would not detonate with those mods at that boost. If you are right, there must be SOMETHING different with your car than the rest of ours.

Strange, but at 4500rpm he still gets enough fuel to support higher than stock boost. If he goes into higher revs and higher CFM he'll undoubtedly blow.
I have similar mods, but have kept my airbox stock until I can get an ecu. Despite this, I get 1.0 bar on the primary turbo and no fuel cut. I am lucky that I have a boost issue with my secondary, and my higher rpm boost falls off to 0.4 to 0.6 bar. I also try to keep at 94 octane gas.
I suspect that most engine blows would happen at the higher CFM range, where the load on the stock ecu is too much. I'd be curious to know the answer.

First thanks for the spelling correction. Never been good at spelling, either english or swedish.
Second, i have to agree it sound totaly BS.
But im just telling you what i read off the boost guage.
I held those 1.2 bars to 7000rmp.
So either i have a boost guage showing wrong(most likely i agree) and/or
a upgraded ecu(not that likely but ...).
I would have thought the boost guage was off if the events leading up to those insane values had been diffrent.
I have a 93 german import that to my knowledge was stock when i got it and run it on highest pupgas i can get hold of (called 98 octane here in sweden, dunno what simular is in the US)
So the events go like this:
First i get street port and 3" downpipe, then i put in boost guage. boost pattern: 0.6-0.8-0.6 bars (8-11-8 psi)
then i get apexi air filters, new boost pattern: 0.8-1.0-0.8 bars(11-14-11psi)
then i get new catback. new boot pattern 1.0-1.2-1.0 bars (14-17-14psi)(i think cant say for sure, this was in august, and still summer in sweden, thought i must have read the guage wrong)
then on a sub zero (centigrade) night in october: 1.2-1.4-1.2bar (17-20-17psi)
It felt like nothing ive felt before. Like being shot out of a cannon chaseing a bat out of hell.
Get chocked as hell. Cuz this time im sure about what i read from the guage.
After that never floored it, never over 4500 just to be on the safe side.
Then i put in a restrictor with a 2" hole between downpile and mian cat.
new boost pattern. 0.8-1.0-0.8bars.(11-14-11psi)
then i put it away for the winter(correct spelling yes ?? ,-)
Snow came a month ago.
So how do i check if i have an upgraded ecu?

Putting a restrictor in there is a good start, but you really need to put the controller on there, for any kind of reliable effect. You could potentially boost past your high numbers under the right conditions.
To find out what kind of ECU you have, our models have the ECU under the passenger side kick panel, I would guess yours would be the same.
SVeeeeden yesh.. yesh
