Lowering an FD

I've got enough $$ now to go and get some spring for my FD, does anyone have a suggestion on what sprigns to use? I am thinking of lowering 1.5-2". how much have most of you lowered your car, and what springs rates would be approtriate? >

need more

Everyone will tell you that we need more info...tire/wheel size especially. Also, a search about suspension set up may result in a ton of info.

Then everyone will mention about "rolling the lips" of your fenders. I have a web page about it and trust me if your not a body shop person forget it!

if you want drop, either cut your springs or get some Intrax (lol...not really an improvement over cut springs anyways )

i would reccomend springs made by RS*R, H&R, or Eibach. but they might not give you the drop you are after.

another alternative might be to get some airbags. much better than coilovers, IMO, if you want adjustable suspension.

Throw a bunch of dead fat people in your car, or cut the springs. Maybe you can take the springs out as well. I used the dead people setup at my local auto-x last year, it bumped my out of my regular class, but I smoked everyone else. Well worth it!

Eibach, H&R, and racing beat are supposed to be really good springs, performance wise, but will not give you more than a 3/4 drop in front and 1 1/2 in the rear

I have H&R, it handles pretty well and it looks pretty good on stock rims.

Eiback are softer than stock, great if you like a soft ride or wished you woned a caddilac. HR adn RB are supposed to be good. except that RB has a bnit larger drop in rear.

an FD stock suspension has the rear end sittin kinda high and ugly, IMO. the RB springs lower the rear more to give it a nice, flat stance. but more importantly than the stance is the performance, and the RBs kick *** in that too!

i have a 2" drop in the front and a 15 inch drop in the back and it rubs after market wheels i had 275 40-17 on rp-01 and it would rub. i had to go back to stock size to drive on normal streets and not hear a horible scraping sound everytime i turned a corner.

Sounds like a good time for a nice set of coilovers.

I have the spring rates of the Eibachs and they ARE higher than the stockers. I also had someone with a stock R1 ride my FD with the Eibachs, and he told me my ride is definetly harder.

Who told you the Eibachs have a lower spring rate?

My eibach Pro-kits are defintley a harder ride. The drop is only about 1-1.25" though. I hope you don't have a lot of pot-holes where you live.

Going any lower than an inch in the front would be PRETTY low.

Well, one thing is for sure, when I put new spirngs on, I want a LEVEL ride height. I agree the back of the car appears to sit high. is the stock ride height actually higher in the rear than the front? the racing beat brings the rear down the distance I want, but the front seems to high still. anyone have a pick of the RB kit? I do have stcok 16 in. wheels, and I plan to upgrade to 17 in. soon, and hope to keep the same wheel+tire size the same. I don't have the R1 lip either. Flybye, I think you're right, I probably would not really want to go any lower than 1.5".
