Low oil pressure?
Hello! This is my first post so please bear with me
. I recently imported my dream car: 1999 Rx7 Type RS. Love it, it’s great. I have some defi gauges in there for oil and water temp, oil pressure, and boost. I’ve noticed when I get to operating temp at idle my oil pressure gets to around 12-18 psi. It increases when I rev it like normal but i’m concerned that’s its too low at idle.
I’ve taken the sender out as well and checked with a manual gauge to confirm that it’s not just the oil pressure sender that’s telling me I have low pressure. I’m currently using 10w-30 oil with an aftermarket omp pump (still premixing though). Is this concerning to you guys as well? I’m still new to the rotary game so wanted to ask.
Should i switch to 20w-50? Bad thermowax? TY

page D5 in the manual would imply that oil pressure at 3k is what matters and not at idle. so long as you're within specs there at operating temp then its all good? i can say at idle i would expect to see high teens and low 20s at operating temp on the gauge installed in a customer car. he's using 10w-40 though. i cant say I've ever heard of an FD with oil pressure issues that weren't from an assembly error. check your pressure at 3k and operating temp. if you're within spec then send it. they don't specify pressure at any other condition for a reason that they deemed reasonable so i would put my trust in mazda.
