Low Coolent light keeps coming on???
My LOW Coolent light keeps coming on every time I start up my car. It would beep for approx. 5 min until the car warms up, and never comes on again.
I made sure the coolent level is full, there is no coolent leak, the car does not over-heat. The only think I could think of is that KDR removed my AST about 3 months ago. Does anyone else have this problem or know what's going on.
Thanks guys.

I had a similar problem before. All I did was after running my car to normal operating temperature, I would let it cool down and top off my coolant. Apparently my car had a hard time "burping" the system after a coolant flush. It took about 3-5 times of this routine but eventually all the air was removed. The sensor for the coolant is in the filler neck thus it doesn't take much coolant loss to hear the buzzer. Hope this helps.

The problem I had, was if the car was idle for a little while it would kick back on (like in a fast food drive through lane) but go off again once the car started moving.
Coolant levels were fine, ended up being O rings and a new engine. Hope you don't have the same problem...

Hey Mahjik,
Did you have any other signs beside the coolent warning light for the O ring/engine problem. Maybe leaking of coolent. I'm trying to find a fix before my engine blows on me. Hopefully I just have the same problem as RX-7 Pilot.
Other RX- Gods out there have the same problem or any suggestions on how I can get to the bottom of this problem? Cause I think I'm loosing sleep over this =)
Thanks for all your help guys.

I had a similar problem on several different occasions. First I changed my radiator cap on my AST and that solved low levels for a while until I found that the coolant hoses on the throttle body were spewing coolant when under pressure. I fixed that but then the once spewed coolant corroded the contact on the level sensor bridge connector next to the trailing front plug and lost continuity to the ECU. I cleaned that up and later had the level sensor go out due to a break in the insulation of the wire causing corrosion to kill the connection. So, it could be any of those things.

MedRx,
Nope, there really wasn't any other signs. I had taken it back to the Mazda dealer from where I purchased the car 3 times complaining about the low coolant alarm to which they said it was normal and to just open up the coolant cap and let it re-pressurize.
After the 3rd trip, I took it to another Mazda dealer in a different state who found the problem.
I wish coolant had been leaking so I at least would have had something to point to, but all I had to go off was the low coolant light/alarm.
Sorry I'm not much help. Hopefully spooledUP7 ideas will help you.

I agree with RX 7 Pilot, seen it time & time again. EVERY time your engine is cold, check the coolant level & top it up. Could probably take up to a week of doing this to get all the air out. Also, as long as you're not seeing any white smoke on startup, especially after being parked for 20-30 mins after being driven, with hard starting, your engine SHOULD be ok. White smoke with hard hot starting & consistent disappearance of coolant : New Engine

Could be your waterseal
Last week when i was driving the buzzer went off and went away 30 seconds later, and it kept happening through out the day. All my coolant levels were fine, i topped off the overflow tank 3-5 times during the next few days when i finally found out my problem. I smell coolant when i start my car from a cold start. Have a friend start the engine for you while you go to your tail pipe and smell for anything other than gas burning. it could very well be your waterseal or o-ring. which both = to new engine. I need a new engine in my now cuz my waterseal is gone. Ordering RE Amemiya motor now.
