for the love of god.. MAKE IT STOP!

My car's exhaust sound is a deep, loving, beautiful sound. It resonates sweetly through the neighborhood block.

But sometimes, and about HALF the time, you can hear a GOD FORSAKEN "chirp, chirp chiiiiiirrpppp" from underneath the middle part of the car!

Today I turned my motor on and laid, side of my face to the ground, looking at the underbelly of the FD's midsection.

"where the hell are you, you son of a bitch? Where's that noise that humiliates me when the turbo timer keeps you going, baby baby?"

"Chirp, chirp chirpy chirp chirp!!!" my car replied.

GOD DAMNIT.

Rotary performance told me it could be the hood latch. They greased it and I WD-40'd it. It isn't the damn hood latch. This chirping, bird-like noise is a plague to my happiness. I cannot drive comfortably with it.

Help me.

Try spraying the bolts in the middle of your pulleys with WD40 and see if it goes away. If it does it when you sitting still its prob not the hood latch. If sounds like something that would be moving eventhough you sitting still. I had a pully that was chirping and it sounded like it was mid car, I sprayed it with WD40 and it was cured.

If it is a pully it would need grease or it might be over tightened

Later,
STEPHEN

Do you think it could possibly be your heat shield?

The rubber hood stops on either sides of the engine bay can make a chirping noise when they rub the hood. Grease these instead of the latch. This solved the problem for me.

I had the same problem even after greasing the hood latch (fixed one squeak, a monthy problem).

I then put a long hose clamp around the main cat heat shield.

Squeak stopped.

YMMV

I agree with Mister 7.

Proabably your heat shield which are under the middle of your car in the transmission/ propeller shaft tunnel.

The other possibility is the airpump hose connection.

Check your rear hatch hinges also. Does it chirp at idle, cruise, or over bumps?

my car chirps too now. It didn't do it till I got the engine wet, turns out it is the tensioner pulley, everytime I put WD40 it stops and every once in a while it comes back. I'm gonna replace it and see if it stops for good (or at least a couple of months)

I think I may have gotten one of those special FDs too, the ones that always have some annoying little vibration or squeak, I fix one another pops up. one of them was a squeaking belt. I looked at the belt, and it was old and cracked and said Mitsubishi. replaced it, car is quiet. just try replacing or tensing the belts and spraying WD-40.

don't mess with anything under the hood. Get off your lazy *** and jack up the car.. why throw needless money at things that aren't your problem. $10 says its what EVERYONE already told you it was. Grab the cat ***when cold*** or tap it with a screw driver. bet ya its loose.............. pry the sheild off if its loose or put a clamp around the whole cat like someone suggested.

hey my carsqueeks too. Mine is inside the cockpit. sounds like teh door frame on the pass side. I was going to oil the seals in the door.
I also have ine in teh roof sounds like where the a=pillart and headliner come together.
Anyone have any ideas on my internal squeeks.
maybe softer springs will fix them.

Take it to a muffler shop. They will probably fix it for free if it is your heat shield. I ended up giving them a $10 tip.
