I heard the best kind of BOV's are the kind that hardly make any noise?!? Is that true?

yeah...thats true. the TiAl for example hardly makes any noise since the opening is so damn big.

personally...i like the Blitz BOV. it the best sounding, IMO. its just a traditional "WHOOOSH!" instead of a high pitched chirp of the GRreddy and HKS units. also, the Blitz is very funtional too, since there are BPU and better Supras running them with 20+ PSI and no problems.

but for really high boost applications, i like the HKS Racing, AKA the "turkey valve". i think it has the most unique sound out of them all. listen to any Audi or Porsche LeMans race car, and youll hear what im talking about.

actually, i dont think 2 BOVs = twice the noise. running 2 BOVs is usually for show. one is enough.

I know it's been a discussed topic already (and i've used the search function already) but i was just wondering if it was safe to have the stock bov vented.. i've heard from people that it will make your car run a bit richer when u let go of the throttle.. it will suck up things during idle.. etc.. can someone fill me in on this.. thanks..

Does anyone have any sound files or links to the HKS Racing Blow Off valve? Someone mentioned earlier the "fluttering" sound it makes. Thanks in advance.

You'd probably get it faster by renting The Fast and the Furious. Listen to the Orange Supra.

Actually guys the one problem that I know of with the apexi bov is that when you turn up the boost sometimes the adjustment **** on the back of it gets loosened and eventually blows right off. This happened to me and I posted my problem and a few other guys said the same thing happened to theirs. Before I could figure out the problem my car was whoooshing all the time and I could only make about 6 lbs of boost. When I finally noticed that the adjustment thing was gone I used a regular old bolt that was lying around my garage and stuck it right in there. Problem fixed. Besides that I am happy with the apexi. I like how you get to choose between 3 or 4 different settings to choose how loud you want your whoosh.

The Racing BOV is not a fluttering noise. I installed one on my friends turboed Civic. He was running 9 pounds......it blew eventually hehe. But anyway It's VERY high pitched sound....kinda like imagine u were a bird...and u just shot urself in the foot. It's a very unique sound, and it takes some getting used to...but now I do like it, but I'll stick with my Blitz.

I have an apex bov, I belive the adjustment screw on the bottom controls how sensitive the bov is. The more you screw in the bolt the tighter the spring and the more pressure it takes to open it, it has nothing to do with how loud it is.

The apex has 3 exhaust holes you can choose from the smallest and most restrictive is the loudest. Like somebody esle said, the loud ones are the most restrictive, a bov shouldn't make a high pitch noise it should make a swosh noise. If your buying it to make noise go for, if your trying to protect you turbo get one that has the largest exhaust opening.

You can mount you bov on the intercooler tank with out welding.

after market BOVs DO NOT restrict air flow! just because its loud doesn't mean it doesn't flow. ita all about chamber design. Most aftermarket BOVs have much larger chambers then stock ones. i have seen plenty in person so i know. As for the apexi...i wouldn't go with it. its a pretty small BOV and i haven't heard many good things with it. it just looks like it wouldn't flow well. i my self want to get ether a night pager or a XS rfl-h or what ever it is. they have so many hahah

does the HKS ssq (normal, not the racing version) have that fluttering sound? or does it just have more of a single whistle sound?

I like the stock bov, but I'm still not satisfied. Being as I'm set on remaining mostly stock for longevity purposes I'm going to throw in a turbo xs rfl for fun.

Guys, none of these bov's should be making a fluttering sound. If yours is making a fluttering sound then you need to loosen the tension spring, or whatever type of adjustment it has. Fluttering is compressor surge, not exactly a good thing for your turbos. Imagine all that compressed air in your intercooler pipes getting trapped when the throttle slams shut on a shift, it has to find it's way out through your bov.. but when your bov is too tight to allow the air to escape it has nowhere else to go except backwards through your compressor blades on the turbo. Cha-cha-cha-cha means it needs to be loosened up, tune your bov's correctly.

Matt
