I feel real bad for you. Even though the important part is that you're ok I know how you feel.

Even after you get it repaired it will not be perfect, the lines probably won't match up like stock (and they're really tight on FDs).

MAKE SURE YOU GET EVERYTHING!!! My insurance company missed that the right side of my engine bay was crumpled and needed to be replaced. I noticed after I finally got my kit (another long story) got my headlights in. The headlight wouldn't even bolt in right and now that I finally got it in it points straight up in the air. Then again, I drive a Civic not an FD so it could be completely different.

Wow, that is a beautiful car silver......well

HIT THE REWIND BUTTON!

So my mechanic decides to tell me today, "Well, I know I told you like 5 or6k last time (I knew itwould be more) but I put the car on the lift today and took it apart and it seems your carriage is broken. (I assume this is the motor mount) We may be lookin more like 14,000." YOU ******! Well that sounds totaled to me. Is it possible that they may be exaggerating the prices a little because someone wants to buy thecar?

Anyways....so its starting to look totatld.....
can you guys explain why that is a good thing, what are my options, and how do I convince my dad on those options. You guys were kids and a lot of you still are or aren't far from it. PLease help me guys...I love my car but if not I found a pretty good match thats a 5spd. Help me out men cuz I belive its goin to the FD cemetary....

It may end up totaled if it did extensive frame damage.

If it wasn't your fault, you could go after the guy's insurance or him financially. $14,000 seems like it's totaled since "totaled" means that the cost to repair a car exceeds half the value of the car. If the insurance company totals the vehicle, they will cut you a check for the value of the car. Now, I'm just making assumptions because I don't know what coverage you or the guy has. If his car was a GEO, good luck in getting money from him. If he is under 18, you could go after his parents since they are responsible for him until 18.

But, if the insurance company totals the care, say good-bye to it. Not unless you know someone that will help you get it back up and running. Cost of parts shouldn't exceed $8,000 - $10,000.

Either way, I feel for you. I'd **** my pants if someone hit my RX-7. I don't even let anyone else drive it.

Let them total it (make sure they give you fair market value based on the price of FD's in your area), buy it back from them (at a substantial discount - aka "salvage value"), part it out, and sell the left-over carcas to a junk yard. Then, take all your new-found dough and buy a reliable sports car. That's how you turn a bad thing into a good thing.

.. and, my very unprofessional opinion said that car was totalled as soon as I saw the bent strut bar - you can't get that much frame displacement without some serious damage.

I feel for you..

This is VERY good advice, this is precisely what I did on another car I used to have that was totalled. They paid out on it, I bought it back for next to nothing ($850) and parted the whole car out along with all the performance junk I had on it. Between that and the money I had in the bank already, well that is how I bought my FD.. and I haven't missed that old car since.

Okay, well they finally totaled it, I think they're gonna give me decent cash for it which is awesme and I don't know the buy back price yet but the Dad is beig real cool about it. He undertands the obsession and we're gonna buy another one and do a lil organ swapping. So right now I'm looking for a new FD.....red, silver, or black, 5spd, preferebly not base and not 93 but lets see what we get. Pm me.
