Lot of FD Accidents this Weekend....Like Mine

Well, got in a wreck friday night. Only me and another driver. No passengers and we were both okay thankfully. Another good note was it wasn't my fault and my car isn't totaled. The guy was making a left from the oncoming lane through an opening in the median and didn't see me coming. On the 3 lane road, I swerved from the far left to the far right lane to avoid him but he had is own plans for avoidance too. He gunned it as to get out of my way in the left lane, so the front left of my car ripped the front of his car off. Somehow, my FD stayed straight and plowed right through while his 98 Chevy Prizm pulled a 180. Only injuries were the burns on my arm I got from the airbag. Luckily, the guy was awesome and was just like "I blew it" so it was easy once the cop got there. So my car is out of commision for a good wile. Lemme try posting these pics.

I agree with what you guys said on what can and can't be replaced. I was real lucky. My car stood up to this junk liek a tank, and things I'm sure would be much worse if I didnt wear a seatbelt. I don't think my face even hit the airbag. Seriouly, wear your seatbelts people. I'm not even sure where to begin on what needs to be fixed but right now im pretty sure on the bumper, fender, headlight, strut, winsheild and Boost controller, which I think just came apart and can be fixed. My condolences though to all the peole this weekend who were not as "lucky" as me.

Glad to see your ok bro. And its pretty cool your showing you can be a good sport about this situation. I hope everything will work out ok for you. We can't afford to loose another FD, so get it back in commission!

Btw, how did getting smacked by the airbag feel??? Obviously its never happened to me (I hope not either) but dont those airbags shoot out somewhere at a speed of 200mph? Did you freak out????

speaking from experience of many insurance claims (accidents and the like), i would cross you fingers and HOPE they totaly it for you. or persuade an adjuster to total it. as long as you have full coverage. you can most likly pick the car up from the insurance company CHEAP. in this case, i would say about $3,000 to $4,000. aslo, i am not sure of the laws of your state. but in NJ you are allowed to have your car fixed at any shop YOU chose. not whaere the insurance company sends you. (read....take it to the dealer) also, if they give you money to fix it (which i doubt) there is no law of a time frame in which it must be fixed. you dont ever have to fix it if you dont want. buy another car and part that baby out and make enough from the parts to buy a new FD.
if you want any advice on how to get your way with the insurance company, please send me a PM. i have been through this a few time and know what to say and do... for instance, i just got $6900 and was allowed to keep the car (a 88 turboII)

fla law is pretty strict compared to all the other states . Ill bet you they total it and it will have to go to an insurance auction where everybody and anybody with a dealers license can go after it Plus the title may come back unrebuildable which means in florida its parts only. Ive seen this happen many times but good luck that car is definately fixable .

Dude, I feel your pain. Glad you are okay! A couple of years ago I was driving a little too agressively and spun and glanced a pole. Makes you feel lucky to be alive. Hey, as long as you learn something from it and don't do the same stupid thing twice. Well, it took a long time, but my FD is all better, except for an engine in need of a rebuild. The only injury was to the end of my nose from the airbag. They do hit you pretty hard, but I'm thinking that it's softer than the steering wheel, dash, or wind shield. It all happened so fast.....

i dont know about florida, but in VA you have the right to buy the car back from the ins. co. they can't put it in an auction unless you dont want to buy it back. also the title salvage rebuildable and unrepairable is determined by the percentage damage. i think unrepairable is 75% of the total value of the car. so that care should be salvage rebuildable. repair it and then get it inspected and it will have a rebuilt title. at least this is how it works in VA

Glad ur ok man.
WHERE exactly did this happen? You know how Miami drivers are

I had an accident almost exactly like yours, except my strut tower wasn't bent in. It wasn't considered a total loss.

Alright, Well personlly, I don't really want a new FD unless like there is serious engine damge which I highly doubt. If u look into the part that was smashed, all u see fucked up is the headlight, a small radiator looking thing and that the wiper fluid tank has come off its mount. It looks like the glove box took some of that good old giganto passenger airbag poof and the exterior of the boost controller came off. The thing still comes on so I think it will be okay. Just need to re-assemble it.

I don't remember hitting the airbag. I was wearing my seatbelt and I'm pretty tall so I sit pretty far from the steering wheel. It's like you tense up when you hit, and in that moment of blinking, you open your eyes and there it is. Burnt the **** outta me lik my arm was all blistery and bubbly when it happend. Those pictures are form 2 days later.

This happendon Kendall drive eastbound just before the 107ave light coming back fromtown and country at about 10:00pm.

I am really hopefulthat they won't total the car. I mean, if they did I know I would certainly get another one but that one was in some goooooood shape. It would be hard to find one in as good condition. I've gotten comments from other FD owners who said my car looks like it just came off the showroom floor in terms of the interior. Still if anything parting it out may not be the end of the world if that happens. Those are soem damn good rims that the previous owner payed for and it seems mechanically sound. O well I don't want to even think about it being totaled. I should Find out more tommorow.
