I thought you were in the military Kai, so I figured that you could PCS/move somewhere a bit more adept for FD driving. It doesn't appear to be the case, so I'm not sure what you should do. Maybe sit on it for a bit and revisit the issue later. Everybody goes through slumps with an FD. It took me going to the canyons East of my location to remind me how much fun I have in it. Good luck and if you do decide to sell it, somebody will be a very luck person.

On a serious note though, I have often contemplated the samething you are, and if I could get back just 50% of what i have into it, roughly $30000, I would take it. I would move onto something with a bit more daily driviability, like i dunno a NSX
NSXs are gutless and very expensive to mod. You'd be sick of it after a month.....

I absolutely agree. They're not much in stock form and mods to that car are very, very expensive.

Everyone has very good points. Don't sell it. We all go through the times when we don't like our 7's. Then once we get in it you realize how stupid it was to even think that. They are worth every penny!

if you want to strech it's legs, then Hawaii is NOT the place to move too. There are quite a few rx's out there on all the islands. But most of the roads suck for fast driving And there is soooo much traffic that you really won't find the room unless late at night most of the time.

I am to the point that if somebody offered me good money I would just say take it...

Guess I am just tired of not being able to let it loose at a track and letting it do what is was built for....

Daym Alaska...lol...maybe move to Hawaii next...

Thankfully, I've been able to make pretty good use of the car here in Cali. The streets and countryside are a pleasure to drive through. There are also plenty of track days and autocrosses to have some fun with the car the way it was intended to.

At track days, I get lots of people coming up to me to compliment me on the car (even with its beat to hell paint) and saying things like "Its good to see that car doing what it was designed to do" on track. I was pitted near Mr. Mardikian at the last NASA event and we were talking FDs almost all day while he raced his Honda.

I've kept my mods to a minimum and have concentrated on rebuilding or replacing old parts like suspension bushings, gas tank and other stuff that has broken or that makes the car more enjoyable to drive.

There does come a point where too much modding just pushes the car into a state where it isn't as enjoyable to drive or own and you've pissed away more money that may have been prudent. I've unmodded my car a bit since I bought it to make it more livable and have been very satisfied with that decision.

Unmodding or a car with minimal mods isn't popular on a forum like since everyone is always talking about their latest and greatest mod and it is contagious. I'm happy to live vicariously reading and seeing other's mods and enjoy what some have done to their car while I try to not contract that disease and keep putting my money in the bank.

Your car does look pretty damn cool and I enjoy looking at it and reading about your changes but I definitely don't want to go down that road myself.

It is no fun to keep sinking money into ANYTHING, let alone a car that depreciates by the hour. And yeah, once you start contemplating things like this, you can get discouraged.
Sometimes it is best to just walk away for a while. Don't even mess with the car, don't even look at it.

I'm not exactly sure where you live so I do not know how far you have to travel, but why don't you stop spending money on mods and spend the money to take it to an event? Is it really that much of a hassle for you?

I don't know about you but the things I do to my FD are for what I mainly use it and plan to use it for. I drive mostly on the street (spirited driving). So I haven't put some radical show body kit on it or a 20b or anything like that. I am aiming for the perfect FD street car so I don't feel like you are feeling now. So far it is getting there with the GT35R. Next thing is replacing the all the bushings and tokico's. Once that is done then my car as far as performance goes is done. No reason to keep pouring money into mods that aren't in the scope of what the cars intention is.

BTW, I have seen one of your videos of you driving in Alaska and that looked hella fun.

I sold mine after 6 years of ownership and have never looked back. Maybe I was just burnt out from fixing other people's rx-7s every day that I didn't want to mess with mine anymore.

Kai what you need is a new project. Your 7 is definitely something you should hold on to, just put it in your garage and wait for a nice day. Find a new project (new car build, house improvements, hobbies, etc...). You need to put the 7 in the way back of your mind for awhile and after awhile you'll come back to it and remember why you didn't sell it.

also, be happy it is running decently. It's really frustrating when your car's been sitting on stands for months, you keep opening your wallet, and the car still doesn't go anywhere.

I tried selling mine. Unless your willing to sell for a low price or get nickeled and dimed over it I would just hold onto it. I didn't want to take under 20k for mine. That limits the possible buyers signifigantly.
I did get burnt out with the car though. I haven't driven it in a few months and the registration expired over a year ago. I don't even feel like kicking out the $128 to renew it. I figure someday I'll enjoy the car again. Until then it pretty much sits aside from the occasional drive to keep the gas from getting old in the tank.

I understand what your saying, im always changing my mind. I love my FD, but i love it too much to take it to a track or even drive it hard. I sometimes think i wouldn't mind buying a cheaper car just for some fun.

By the way, i think you car is gorgeous Kai, you should just use it as a Sunday car!

I hear ya.
There is a saying that when you stop wanting you are dead. I find this applies to cars.

When I stop wanting the next mod... the car is dead to me. Once I get a car to the point where I think it is perfect... I move on. You will spend an outrageous amount of money this way, and you will always be giving someone else the enjoyment of your labour. I guess that is the price we pay for our unwillingness to be content with what we have.

Perhaps there is a lesson to be learned here... something about being happy with what you have or some .... whatever... on to the next car.

^ it's true dude. The car never feels as fast as the first time you drove it. My T2 has about ~400whp now, it had 250 when I bought it but it really, really felt like a rocket then. You just have to know when to say enough is enough.

I guess there are two ways to look at it: humans are constantly looking to improve their lot, constantly striving for the next goal and frequently achieving it. Or people are just chronically unhappy and never satisfied for any length of time no matter how hard they work or how great the accomplishment.

Ok, enough philosophy for now.

I still get emails from my cars first owner. He wants his car back. He misses his car. He can't believe he sold it. It was the dumbest thing he's ever done he says. Now, you don't want to sound like this guy? Do you? Trust me, He ain't gettin it back.

Well i highly doubt i would be sick of it after a month, cant get sick of reliability. They are pretty expensive to mod, especially if you go the turbo route. But honestly, i would probably do a couple minor engine mods, paintwork and wheels and call it a day.

Ditto. Intake/headers/exhaust give it a really nice sound, and wheels for the look. Other than that leave an NSX alone, and enjoy that it is usually rather trouble free. An NSX you don't buy to go fast in a straight line, you enjoy the curves and the looks.
