Looking for confirmation of rear axle nut size please
I am in the process of replacing a rear wheel bearing on my FD and I am to the point where I need to pull the raer axle nut. I did a search and found the some people say it's 35mm, some say 36mm. Before I go buy the socket I was hoping to get a confirmation on the size so that I get the right on the first time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dennis

35 mm i suggest you buy a 1 3/8 12 point socket which is more easily, and cheaply, attainable. it works great. about $5 at some hardware stores.
don't expect to get the axles out of the hub if they haven't been previously removed... they need to be soaked overnight and pressed out most of the time.

Thanks for the quick response! I don't think they have been apart before, so wish me luck. From what I've read I just might need all the luck I can get.

dennis,
as i mentioned, if the axles have not been previously removed from the spindle/upright it is highly probable that you will not be able to remove them from the spindle using a hammer. (if you have time, maybe you could do it by soaking them w lots of penetrant for a day or 2... maybe) do not beat them into oblivion by hammering too much on the nut... as you will damage the axle threads.
be prepared for plan B which is to take the axle/upright assembly to someone who works on trucks and suspensions... talk nice to him and it should be able to be done in an hour or 2 of labor expense.

Thanks guys. The problem above is exactly the problem I ran into when I did the search. People said everything from 32mm ~ 36mm. That's a big range and someone has to be wrong. There's a ton of information out there, too bad it's not all accurate. By the way, I didn't post this to offend ANYONE, and I do appreciate EVERYONE'S input.
