looking at buying a FD, have a question, ATTN: TurboJeff

hey all-
i've been a member for a little over a year, and finally found a project FD that i can afford, and am thinking about buying it. I've gotten pictures from the individual that is selling the car, and he was very upfront about there being damage to the vehicle. the guy is asking a very reasonable price, and it incudes full drivetrain (out of vehicle).

anyway, on to my real question. the damage is in the pictures that are attached. the guy said that it'd cost about $300 to get it pulled with a laser machine. that is why i targeted TurboJeff, because he has had expierence with these machines re-doing his FD's. is this damage pull-able, or do i have to replace the passenger front/front clip? the guy that is selling it is sending me more pictures of the car tomorrow, with close-ups of the damage.

"In Before The Lock" IBTL...
its just forum rules not to address a thread to an individual.

It doesn't look that bad to me...I say go for it.

Actually that is probably a pretty hard hit. Don't have him take close ups, they typically are too close to see anything.

I'd be interested in see the frame rails with battery, airbox and IC removed in the front section right where the radiator sits.

is it just addressing a thread to an individual in general, or is it when you address a thread to attack a person that it gets locked? i've never seen this before, that's why i'm wondering

In general, but I've seen the mods let it slide before. Just depends on what kind of day they are having I guess...

I think that it depends on the nature of the thread as sometimes the questions are pertinent and not entirely directed at one forum member, though they may hold the most experienced answers...ie turbojeff, maxcooper, damonB, mahjik, etc...

I'm actually curious about this. Jeff, can you comment on what is considered fixable or not. I'm just curious as with DamonB's mishap to the roof and unibody, I thought for sure that his car would have been totalled and deemed unfixable.

thanks for the info. i knew that Jeff had the most expierence with stuff like this, that's why i put the "ATTN:" in the title of the thread. i was also hoping that someone else that had this kind of damage, even if they didn't re-do the car themselves like Jeff has with his cars, would chime in and give their expierences. i'll post pictures as soon as i get new pictures, hopefully they give more detail on the damage, and i can get an idea before i go and *possibly* purchase the vehicle. if it's trashed, then i may buy it anyway and just swap the parts to a straight body.

Seting up and pulling a car is roughly 300 but replacaing stuff is where it gets expensive. Those pics are worthless. A sway in the front of the car is no big deal, what you dont want to see is major buckles in the rails. Do not expect a 300 dollar pull and a few pannels will fix it, because if it needs more it will get expensive. Post better pics (Not close ups, and not from a cell phone) and ill try to give you a good estimate. BTW I dont see why this thread should get locked, It wasnt amied specifically at jeff just grabing his attention since he has a good bit of knowledge in this area. Mike

i requested pictures of the frame rails and hopefully he understood that i wanted them from the inside and the outside of the car. i'll drop him another e-mail to make sure that he knows to give me both pictures. i wasn't expecting to just have it pulled, throw on the panels, replace the windshield (smashed, not in car at moment), have the motor re-built, and make it all run. i was planning on having it as a couple year project, working on it while i'm at home over brakes (in college right now).
