what do the plugs look like when the car burns coolant?
these seem like its either running a little on the lean side or there is some coolant burning. these plugs have 5k on them. when i took the first plugs out of the car when i just bought it they looked like this (brand new plug that was about to go in, which are the ones now in my first pic and the one on the right was the one i took out) this is with m2 stage 3 ecu and only a DP and an intake on the car.

The top plugs look good to me and low mileage on them.

The last plug is defiantly rich and with a stage 3 ecu, dp, and intake that is going to run you very rich.

If u have a reprogrammed ecu, u can't. The fuel curve is fixed, unless you continue to put some more mods that effects your air path.

its the bottom plug that had a stock ecu and only a DP at the time
the top plug is what i have now with a dp, intake and stage 3 ecu.
i was expectiong it to be even more rich then before, but from what it looks like its leaner.

The picture of the top plugs look like they have white residue on them if so....you are running dangerously lean....!! You want your plugs to have a brown to dark tan residue, which indicates correct A/F ratio. Remember its always better for rotary plugs to be black(richness...to an extent) then to be white(very lean) and blow your motor.

Kahren, Maybe you have a dirty fuel filter or clogged injectors. Thats one way to run lean on those mods.

the last pic is what i was running before and the first one is what it runs like now. i am concerned because i do not understand how with a stage 3 m2 ecu and only an intake and a downpipe i could be on the lean side?

i wouldn't push it with spark plugs looking like that. I'd say that's on the lean side. Mines are on the black side..but too rich is better than too lean in this case.

Maybe the M2 ECU maps are not good or someting? they should be albe to provide enough fuel for a midpipe and higher boost. What boost are you running anyway?

the stage 3 should be good for intake, intercooler, dp, catback and 14 psi of boost and some even run all that and a midpipe and still run rich. i was just suspecting some coolant burning because i dont see how i can run lean and only other thing that would lead the spark plugs to look like that is burning coolant. i dont get the low coolant buzzer i got it once about 3 weeks ago and i had to add about an ounce of coolant. my resorvoir was full and so was the AST. i suspect my filler neck cap to be not so good. and i dont leak coolant on teh ground or anything all hoses are fine.

white = kaboom real soon, you need more fuel to cool things off.

coffee and cream = relax and enjoy the ride, your stoichiometric groove is right on, and Jupiter is aligned with Mars.

black = go to a hotter plug or adjust your driving style to get more zoom zoom and less carbon in your life.
Apex seals HATE carbon.

I don't care WHAT mods you have. You can truly tell the health of your engine by reading plugs. Kind of like tea leaves ................

it sure as hell won't hurt.

exactly, i am coffeee and cream, but shoudlnt i ahve more fuel on tehre with my mods i was expecting some sort of a black plug since it shoudl be throwing more then enouf fuel in there.

here is my theory. he's running rich, so the plugs should be black, but only one side is black. maybe the m2 chip retards the timing. then as the rotor turns under the plug, it will go off later than stock. the mass of fuel will also move farther away from it with the rotor.

when the fuel is ignited it will turn the plug black. naturally the side facing the explosion will be turned first. by the time the other side would normally get the burn, the rotor have turned far enough for the apex seal to seal the plug away from the explosion.

so i think that the way those plugs were in is the black side was facing in the direction of rotation. the main plugs should then be either black or have noticeably less white. we'll see when he comes back after taking those out

btw, those first pics were the trailing plugs now i took out the leadign today to look at those as well, and here is the pic
these look a little darker, but also the one that came from the rear rotor has a few little bubles on it, you can see them if you look closelly on teh pic, its the plug on the right. those are not the signs of detonation though and are not pieces of aluminum, it is the build up since i can scrape it off with my finger nail.
