Look @ My Plugs!!! Pics!!!

Hey guys,

Here is a picture of my plugs I have had in for under 10,000 miles...I know the picture isnt all that great cuz I had to take it with my cell phone...But I think you can get a general idea...

I think they look pretty bad...One of the plugs is actually melting on the top edge What would cause these plugs to take a **** on me so quick?

The reason why I decided to change them is because my car loves stalling all the time now...Expecially when I turn the A/C on...anybody know what that problem might be?

Mods installed on the car are...

Greddy Intake
SS Dp
Blitz catback
TurboXs Bov

Let me know what you guys might think it is...

Thanks,
Shawn

the fact they are whiteish concerns me. that usually means alot of heat. which by looking at your mods, do you have some sort of fuel controller? because i bet your running (dangerously) lean.

i burn through plugs like crazy but from a few known reasons. 10000 miles is alot, IMO.

Put the PowerFC in NOW. There's absolutely no good reason to hold off, and it will take you very little time to install it.

With those mods, you're easily getting boost spiking that's pushing your luck. The PowerFC's boost control will help keep things in check as well.

Plugs always look crappy when you change them - I've never learned anything by looking at plugs. I wouldn't sweat that too bad.

If you mean something like "just under 10000 miles" then that's about right. No such thing as a 100,000k mile plug with a these cars. 10k is about what everyone gets on a set of plugs.

I think they look pretty bad...One of the plugs is actually melting on the top edge
It's hard to see details with your pic but if by "melting" you mean that the electrode and plug body are erroding, well that's what they do and yes, in 10000 miles they can look like that. I would guess that the lighter ones are the trailing plugs. They usually look a little lighter than the leadings. Since the pic looks overexposed/washed out it's hard to tell what the actual colors might be though. Your mods should be find with the stock computer as long as your right around 10 lbs of boost.

The reason why I decided to change them is because my car loves stalling all the time now...Expecially when I turn the A/C on...anybody know what that problem might be?
Could be time to change the plugs & oil. Has it improved with the new plugs? How clean is yoru air filter? Could also mean things like low compression, old fuel filter, etc.. How many miles? Tired engine plus AC can equal stalling.

If you pop in your Power FC, you can change the idle speed when the AC is on, assuming you have the commander or a datalogit.

Fresh oil change..maybe 500miles ago with Royal Purple 20-50w I believe...

Fuel filter was changed almost 10,000 miles ago...But I think I am gonna go ahead and change it again...Just in case...

I think I am gonna have a compression check done... Cuz when my car gets warmed up pretty good it tends to run like hell...And dont even think about WOT throttle with the A/C on...there is like no boost past 6,000rpms...

But the motor show to have killer oil pressure..so thats a plus...Yet it uses oil pretty bad too though...I probably put a extra quart in it inbetween oil changes...

I have 62,000 on the car and motor...But the guy I bought it from claimed it had just been rebuilt...But failed to show any proof whatsoever...So im just gonna assume it hasnt been rebuilt...

Thanks,
Shawn

Shawn, get used to all of those things (except for no boost) all the rest is normal for these cars. You should be burning a little under a quart of oil every 1000 miles if everything is like it should be. These cars are oil injected to help cool the rotor faces and keep everything lubricated. The wear and carbon buildup on your plugs is normal. I would definately move to get that PFC installed as soon as possible as well.

RX-7s are high maintenance, this is just the beginning. Make sure you take care of it and your expenses will be spread out rather than all at once but they WILL be there.
