Lois is here

Well, for those very few who knew about it, I am back from Florida. With my FD. Her name is Lois now. we get along great. I took a roll of pics to chronicle the trip, and will scan/post them later....I'm tiiiiired right now. want bed. Oh, and as a side note, the car, with its 73,00 mile engine, purred along the 1200 mile trip home over 3 days. Got back into DFW, was about to exit the highway to my work so I could show the other bartenders and the waiters my new FD. Did I mention I drive an FD yet? sorry. Still pumped. anyway, its 9 or so,dark, driving down the highway at about 70, 1230 miles down, 20 or so to go until I'm home.

AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE FREAKING LEFT HEADLIGHT COVER FLIES OFF AND BOUNCES OFF THE F'N FRONT WINDSHEILD!!!!

I stop and look for it, but its a black piece of metal and its dark, so no dice. So now when the popup headlights are off, on the left one (your left if you are sitting in the drivers seat), there is no cover. headlight still there, all that stuff, but I look at the other side, sleek, black, shiny, only the lines give away that its not one piece. Then I look back at this side and I'm staring at the metat frame of the headlight. Needless to say I was not in a bright shining mood when I walked into my work 10 minutes later. Anyway, tomorrow I have to go back and see if I can fid it in the daylight....but I'm not expecting to. As a side note, anyone know how to go about replacing a 3rd gen headlight cover?

You're not the first this has happened to...some guys recently posted about this problem...keep the screws tight on the covers.

Too bad it wasn't the passenger side cover- you could pick up the FEED cover or Knightsports covers...not that they do much good for airflow.

I thought about getting those and then I decided that I was going to go with the integrated headlights.

Unhappy Me too

WTF is right, I had the same thing happen to me at about 90mph. I notice that the thin plastic cover had actually dry rotted. I ordered a new part from Mazda and when I received it I noticed that Mazda had actually changed the thickness of of the part it much thicker now and they're easy to put on just raise to hood, two screws in the front of the light and two in the back. You still have to get it painted. I have ordered a C-West vented replacement from RX7 store a while ago and I'm still waiting for it.

Just as a sidenote, the vented headlight covers are for the right side (from drivers seat). At least from all the pix ive seen, they are only on the right hand side.

yep, i was another victim of the screw-in-bad-places headlight cover. mine flew off at about 130mph as i was going down I-55, it shattered my windsheild. that was another 180 bucks. i went ahead and got the c-west headlight kit for my car. i have another friend here in town and it happened to him last week.....it sucks.....it just seems as if the mounting areas are not thought out too well, as the screw are all towards the rear of the assembly, and thus air pockets in the front and pulls it up ever so slightly until the tabs break.....and then........pop, it hits you windshield and scares the **** out of you....it did me!!!!

sorry...
