Edit: trailing coils was not the problem, it only fixed it for one drive and I'm not sure why.

The real problem was that the PO had the signal wire for the fuel pump speed relay grounded, so that was throwing the ECU into limp mode. Why in the world they thought they needed to T a ground into that (blue/white) wire, I will never know. Car runs great now.

So it was in limp mode. Glad you had it figured out. Funny how someone T'ed a ground wire to a signal wire >___<
