Lets be honest...who learned manual just to drive an FD?

I'll be honest guys...I've drove automatics my whole life. But I knew I had to learn manual one of these years. My manual-exp. buddy had assisted in test drive of the FD with things to look for. So sadly and ironically, I practice off the FD AFTER buying the car. Surprisingly, the FD was pretty easy to learn off. Yes I admit, I stalled several times only at 0mph to accelerating but I didn't ride the clutch, grind, etc. I did practice 'just 'lil bit off of my buddies RSX (thanks man!). The stock FD clutch is pretty nice. Took me less than a week to learn. Now I'm shifting smooth w/o signs of high rpms/clutch slippin'. Easy stuff.

I pretty much learned to drive standard on my FD. I had a few practices behind the wheel of various cars prior. But i pretty much learned on my rx7.

Hahaha. I guess it's true with the "2nd nature." I used to "eye" my tach meter as to when I shift but now, I can just feel and "hear" when to shift. It's 2nd nature almost now. I occassionally look at my tach still as it's good to.

thats odd. i am currently in the same situation. i am in the market for an fd and i have a exp. manual driver friend who tests drives the car for me and oddly enough he owns a type s as well. i just never accept to practice on his car b/c id feel horrible stalling on it esp. when he babies the thing. i am just planning to learn manual with just me and the fd it will be a great opportunity to bond with the car. this was my high school dream car and i NEVER EVER thought id ever own one and now i am in the market only 2 yrs after highschool.

I never owned an auto transmission car in my life.

In fact, the only non sports cars that I ever owned was a 79 Mazda GLC.

I WAS BORN AND AM A 'SPORT CAR ADDICT'.

I only had a week of manual driving when I got my 7 and never stalled the 7 til one day when I had to park on a hill which I never did and of course I forgot the car was in first when I released the clutch. Gotta love it! The FD has an excellent transmission compared to other stick cars though even my brother whos driven more stick cars then me was sitting in the passengers seat and was like damn this car shifts so smooth. His S-10 Extreme is a bitch to shift gears cause it's all at an angle. Sad part though about me babying the 7 is I'm teaching my wifey how to drive stick in it. *fear*

this is weird im surprised...1st car i ever drove was manual when i was like 14 or somethin then i learned on my dads truck a couple years later.

its weird tho, i know a kid who payed my friend to learn on his rsx too. he learned for his new mustang...not an fd, eww not even close but same thing. im surprised by this topic i never thought anyone would learn on this car.

i personally cant stand AT ALL driving anything automatic.

I went and bought my first car 98 Neon R/T without ever driving a manual. I drove it home and taught myself that very day (no one ever told me you don't downshift into 1st until you are at a stop, i would do it before every stop sign, very jerky). I had a good bit of experience with how a clutch works from quads and dirtbikes since I was like 11.

-I believe everyone should learn how in case someday it's needed in an emergency event.

Good Luck.

I love manual as it gives you "more control" of the car. But sometimes on a relaxin' day or if hauling something, I prefer my automatic 4Dr Tacoma. Oh and by the way, my FD came with an aftermarket short shifter and I heard the stock FD shifters is like torture..haha. How's the stock shifter like?

The FD was the first manual car I have ever owned, but I learned to drive stick a good while before even thinking about getting an FD. Learned stick on my grandfather's old toyota pickup that is actually pretty challenging to drive compared to other manual cars.

yeah im the same way, i dont look at the tach much, but when you need to(i.e. racing) thats about the only time i do look, and even then its only on a straight when i need to have precise shifting at certain points to get the most out of every gear.

i lisetn and feel the engine most of the time, even when its just cruising.......me and cars........are on in the same

First manual car to learn was an fc. It lost its shift boot so I was burning up in it.
