Let me know what you think

I'm in the market for an FD and I've come across a very good one. It is a 93 R1 with around 65000 miles and the interior and exterior are in excellent condition. 1 of the factory recalls has not been performed on it, (the coolant system recall). The car is pretty much stock. The only mods I saw during my initial inspection were a catback exhaust, aftermarket steering wheel, and intakes. The engine runs smooth and appears to be in good health and boost levels are normal. The asking price is 16000. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks a lot.

sounds like a good deal. ask for the stock parts just in case you need it later.

Bring it to a rotary specialist (not a Mazda dealer) and read the purchase advice in the FAQ. $16k is a reasonable price if it checks out and has very good paint and interior.

16K is a good price for a decent FD in good condition.

First thing you should do is get a compression test.

Also, is it the original engine? If it is, I'd be careful because although some last to around 125k miles, it seems just from reading around that many go bad around 70k miles. It all depends on how well the car was taken care of.

It is the original engine. It seems to run great, but you're right, I'd definitely like to get a compression test with numbers to see what kind of health the engine is in. Thanks a lot for all the feedback.

I would bring the car to a reputable rotary shop to be looked over prior to the purchase. If the current owner has nothing to hide, he should have no problem with it. I am in Central Jersey if you want to bring it to me. I recently did this service for a customer in Pennsylvania.

I appreciate the offer, however I'm buying the car back home which is in California. The car is also for sale at a dealership. If there's anyone available in the San Diego area that could provide such a service, that would be great!

Gotcha. Be wary of dealerships. They were never trained to work on these cars properly. I would tell them I want a compression test done.
