Jesus, what did he say after it happened? This just reinforces my feelings that nobody is driving my 7 but myself.

I wanted to hear what my car sounded like.. i had somebody video tape me

You just posted a nice clean pic of your ride yesterday in my thread about red FDs with silver wheels and such, and now this happens! WTF?? Man, seeing this makes me cry after seeing that sweet pic of your ride. I'm sorry this happened but like people here have said, INSURANCE...it's a good thing.

i let my dad drive mine once while i was in the passenger seat and told him if i saw the boost gauge go over 5psi i was gonna smack him. only had to hit him once.

ive since decided its best to not let anyone ever drive my cars again.

sorry about your loss, now you know for the next one you get.

I would call that a total loss. Rear quarter pannel damage on just about any car is some of the most expensive body work to be done. I would punch your friend in the dick if i were you. That sucks man. I cant even imagine how that must feel.

man, talk about bad luck. Better bring it to ICBC under your friend's name. if its a write-off, remember to buy the car back before they auction it off. anyways, we'll talk later.

my little brother is one of the few who has had the privilege. He fears the FD. Most talk smack about how great a driver they are and how they've driven this and that. My brother has my respect for his wisdom. The FD is challenging enough in the hands of an experienced driver. I let a friend run my FD and I ran his Miata at Auto X. The FD scared the **** out of him and I only have two power mods.

thanks for the info regarding what would be required to repair this..

and i'm not losing a friend over this, or holding a grudge. just not gonna let him or anyone else ever drive my next car i purchase. his initial reaction kinda pissed me off though. he hit the retaining wall.. then just drove towards me and nonchanlantly said he was very sorry. i was thinking WTF? is that your only emotion you could display? but he was just .. very shocked i guess. i was speechless.

and yeah, at the moment i'm really hoping insurance will write it off.. it'll never be the same again..

and turbojeff, i'll take a look at that area tmrw.. i'm gonna get it towed to my friends bodyshop tmrw.. sigh.

what's the real kicker is that i *just* had the engine rebuilt, bought those wheels/tires a few months back, had my large SMIC and CAI installed recently, and i'm receiving my rails for my recaros next week............ sigh.

i guess its true.. those inexperienced should NOT drive this car!

anywho.. will keep those interested updated.. so much for Good Friday eh?

it all depends on wether he is a best friend or just a friend. If it was my best friend who did that, i would forgive and i would know he would pay out..only true friends will. It does look like a write off imo. Sorry to say that, but your gonna hear it sooner rather than later. Just talk to him like a human being and he should be cool.

only person that will be able to drive my car is my dad....he sees no point in going fast, and will help me with rebuilding it, he lets me drive his TR7 which is his second car, ever...had it since 198? (forget the exact year)

so i don't really have a choice, but i don't mind......it's my dad

Shouldn't be too bad to fix in a proper body shop. Just buy a new panel/panels, drill the old one out and spot weld the new panels in place, a bit body filler to the seams and new paint and off you go(again)!

I let my buddy drive my car once....he got a ticket for 75 in a 35. He's the only one to get a ticket in that car. HAHA. We turned a corner and got onto a straight away so he hammers in in 2nd and gets to third. He then lets off of it. That's when we passed to cop. By the time i could have said, "slow down, that's a cop," we had already passed him. Oh well, not my ticket =)

I know it sucks that this all happened, but i cant see this guy holding his friend financially responsible for the accident. That is what insurance is for. And he did ASK his friend if he would drive his car, not the other way around. This is just a shitty situation all around. Im really sorry to see another FD bite the dust, but im glad nobody got hurt, and i hope everything works out well.

I've let at least 10 of my friends drive my car, and all except for two of them spun. One of the people who spun is a Nationals-level autocrosser, and has tons of experience driving high-powered Corvettes and Camaros.

Luckily, the only damages that occurred were to innocent cones (and my friends' pride, haha). I'm very generous about letting people drive my car on an autocross course, because it's nearly impossible to hurt anything. But I don't let ANYONE drive my car on the streets, unless they've already learned its limits in a safe environment.

I'm glad all the people escaped safely, sorry to hear about your car, and sorry you had to learn this lesson the hard way.

yeah, that's why i'm iffy about asking him to take full responsibility. i did ask him to drive it so i feel at fault.

but a lot of my friends have also told me that he did accept it thus taking responsibiility.. so i dont know. it's a tough call.

I have let 3 people drive my car (wife and 2 friends).

I agree on not letting inexperience people drive, but to put things into perspective the FD was the first car with any reasonable amount of power that I drove, so you have to learn somewhere.

The key is being intelligent and understanding that you may not be the best driver in the world.

As for the people that drove my car.

1. The wife => I taught her to drive manual transmisssion in the FD, and she FEARS it, so no desire to get on the throttle, but she likes it.

2. Two friends, either of which could outright buy me another FD if they wrecked it so no concerns there.

But for the record, 1 friend also spun the car out on a corner getting onto the throttle, the transition was "unexpected" at 4500 rpm. But I have had the chance to rag on his 2003 M3 NUMEROUS times, so we are even

Ok, so we're swapping friend driving stories . .

I truly feel for you. I learned my lesson the hard way but I must say your story makes mine seem like a walk in the park. I let my very good friend drive my FD. It's very clean w/only 46K orig miles on it. I tell him, ok, I'll let you drive it with me in the passenger seat and don't go all indy 500 on me ok? First thing he does is peel out slamming it into 2nd hard and then misses 3rd three times in succession with a terrible gear grinding sound. As we hit about 90 mph on a mountain road he finally slows down and apologizes for the grinding incident. Next day I find out he blew the 5th gear sychro. Now I have it in the shop to rebuild the gear box and it's costing me $1700. I had to make a decision not to lose my friend and basically eat the cost. Just glad it wasn't as serious as an actual crash. It could easily have gone that way. Now I will never, ever, ever let anyone drive it again! I know if I'd done it to someone's car, I'd pay for it but then as you said, I kind of feel responsible for letting him drive it. People just can't resist putting the legend to the test. Here's what I'd like to do to my friend especially if he ever asks to drive my car again
