(Legit) Mazdaspeed Seats Information

I've been lucky enough to get my hands on a pair of these:

Name: d3cf89ee-7c97-492b-bca1-a61467397380_zps5e87662f.jpg

And have been searching to get all the facts together on the seats. Found all the easy info:

Manufactured for MAZDASPEED by Bride.

Two types, A-Spec sport seats, and Type-F. The A-specs had the Mazdaspeed logo down the center of the seat with graduated striping and vinyl(?) sides/backing , and the Type-F's were one solid color and a suede-like material.

It appears there are adapter brackets for the FC and the Miata, but not for the FD.

Now, the question that's burning in my head is: What years were these seats produced and sold? It was my understanding before that these were from the early 90's, but that must be very wrong, as I found group buy threads on the miata forums for these seats in 2005. And contrary to that, in 2003 on the same forums it was said that the seats were no longer produced, however they are supposed to be listed in the 2003 MAZDASPEED parts catalog(which I couldn't source). What I'm looking for is solid info on when they started selling them, and when they stopped.

Hopefully this can be a kind of central thread on this topic, so future users won't have to dig through all the dead links of the internet in hope of piecing together info. Pics have been uploaded so they don't become frustrating dead links.

If any of the above is incorrect, please correct me! Any input and further info is much appreciated.

They were certainly available in the early 2000s as I had a miata and always wanted a set back then. They were semi hard to find even back then though since hardly anyone imported them into the states

Yeah, definitely doesn't seem like there are too many around, I suppose when they were new, for the money many guys chose a nice aftermarket bucket seat over these perhaps.

I must say, those are pretty sweet!

Anything FD specific made by Mazdaspeed is a pretty rare find indeed these days....

Would anyone be willing to send some pictures and maybe measurements of the brackets they have for the A-specs? I got a drivers seat, but having zero luck with finding brackets over the past 8 months.

Since they were made by Bride it's quite possible that Bride seat rails for the FD would work. You can probably find information on how the mounting holes for Bride seats are a lot easier, I would compare it to your seats then go from there.

Might need a set of Bride sliders then the FD-Bride adapter rails would be my guess.

Awesome seats! Real, rare, eye candy.

Herblenny, those seats look mint! They look fantastic in that cockpit.

How do these seats feel compared to Recaros or Sparcos? From what I've read online, a lot of people say that Bride seats run small(er) and fit the Asian frame better. Never sat in a Bride seat, so I wouldn't know.

I've got the red Type-F seat in my FD (found the seat and rail at UpGarage for $200 in perfect shape). Can't say I've noticed much of a size difference between Bride, Recaro, or Sparco seats. The MS seat is comfortable, but I do wish it had more side support.

They are somewhat narrow, but no more than any other racing seat imo. I'm a 31" waist, and they fit me perfectly.

They were quite comfortable, but not as much as the Recaro Speeds I have. To be fair, I've always been a fan of anything Recaro(aftermarket sport seat wise). I've never been impressed with Sparco's.

Buyers beware and ask for pics of the brackets and underside of seats. I bought a second set of black Type A's where the side bolster was collapsed on one. I figured no big deal because I wanted to recover them in an R1 similar suede. Asked if had brackets, yes. Got them and no brackets, missing some of the studs for brackets plus missing metal tray and springs under one.
