? Late '95 air-intake hose interchangeable ?

According to the 1995 RX-7 parts catalog, the accordian style air-intake hose coming from the air-cleaner and to the turbo-inlet, has been changed from N3A1-13-220, to N3D8-13-222 in the last quarter's production of the 1995 RX7.

The N3A1 is $140+ and the N3D8 is $79 on Mazdamotorsports.

Are they interchangeable ?

I'd hate to spend $140+ for just an air intake tube . . .

I personally wouldn't even pay $79 for a stock intake pipe. Especially when you can get some hard pipes for a little more, or a nice used pipe for a lot less (you see them al the time in the FS section). Shoot, I have a couple sitting in my garage. They're in good condition and you can have it for just a few bucks plus shipping if you're interested.

Yes, Mazda stupidly changed this in 95....I discovered this when trying to install a PFS intake box...

They should be interchangable however with the stock pieces. Just get a used hose off the forum.

Rob,

can you point to a source for a quality hard/metal stock air intake pipe (accordian style 13-221) (air-box to turbo inlet) ?

I heard the M2 one is discontinued.

Well that is interesting. I wasn't aware of any '95 mid-year changes. Anyone know what the difference is and why the change was made?

Whoops, sorry. I guess my post was a little confusing. What I meant was that I have a few STOCK rubber accordian type pipes that he could have for next to nothing. OR, as an alternative, you can purchase some polished hard pipes for very good prices.

Neil, as far as polished hardpipes go: last I checked (which was about 6 months ago), GothamRacing had a nice set, but they were trying to find a new source for the work. Not sure if they ever worked that out or not. RX7Store also used to carry them. You can also do the e-bay version for about $40 (these are the ones that I have on my personal FD). The e-bay ones are great for the money, but I've heard a lot of complaints that they don't fit with the stock airbox. You may want to research that some more. Also, you can sometimes find hardpipes in the FS section (people just going single turbo will part out a lot of good stuff like that).
