Wow 10,700 miles. If I had the money I would actaully almost consider paying that. Then never ever dirve the car and see what its worth in 20 years. Although I'd much rather just have a new 2002 spirit R.

Right..................
US 1992-1995
UK 1992-1995
AU 1992-1998
JP. 1992-2002
Production actually started in NOV-91 in Japan but they didn't hit the streets until Jan-92. USA got them from MAY-92 although many will be JAN-FEB-MAR-92 production for the 1st of the 92 models.

There is no such thing as a "1992 RX-7" in the United States, either FC or FD. This was covered ad nauseum in a recent thread.
You should remember that thread... you posted in it.

mazda usa told me that my 95 was made in January 96 and sold in march that year. so if they were not lying to me (which I certainly think that they could be wrong
), then this guy does not have the last one made.

wrong...
JP. 1991-2002
Production started in either september or october 91 (I have seen mazda quote both dates in several sources, online and paper).
They were released for sale in december - as stated here (albeit in kanji): http://www.mazda.co.jp/history/rx7/Java/ - I've seen this fact backed up by both mazda and unofficial sources in numerous publications
they were in the states in 92, but are badged 93 - so whether or not there is a 'US 92' is a question of semantics

mine: JM1FD333XS0400477
looks like his is higher from just looking at the last numbers. But why do I have an "X" where he has and "8"? I'll check the build date when I leave work
.
The X or 8 is the check digit in the VIN. It's keyed to the rest of the VIN to prevent people from just making up VIN numbers, and also helps places verify that the VIN is correct with no typos.
The production numbers are sequential, so the 526 is higher than the 477. The 526 also holds with the 500 car production volume for '95.

The only possibilities for a U.S. FD are:
P = 1993
R = 1994
S = 1995
That's it.

I mentioned in another post, and will just mention it here, that I have seen a black base model 95 with a '530' production number that shows up on Carfax. So that car for sale is NOT the last FD brought to the states.

Mine was one of two '95 MBM PEPs that were imported in late March of 1997 by Chaplin's Mazda in Bellevue, WA. As far as I know, those were the last two new '95s imported. I'd have to check my stickers for the build date, but I believe it was 9/95 and my VIN ends in 237 or something like that, so the VIN had nothing to do with the order in which they were imported, as far as I can tell. I don't know what the VIN of the other car was, unfortunately.
Yeah, that's also a case - what's the last VIN, and what's the last car imported. Again, semantics
.
I know manufacturers make a number of cars that aren't sold to the general public - considering there are supposed to be 500 '95s exactly, and we're talking VIN numbers of 526 and 530, there's obviously some extra cars. I wonder if they have some that are press cars, crash test cars, quality assurance cars, etc. I don't know the story there - that might be an interesting bit of trivia
.

Okay, I called Mazda Customer Support (1-800-222-5500) and it turns out the VIN's are not always sequential. I gave them the VIN for the car in the ad (JM1FD3338S0400526) and they came back with a build (assembly) date of 12/27/95. I also gave them the VIN for the car listed on Steve Cirian's site (JM1FD3331S0400528), and the build date on that car turned out to be 12/23/95.

The CSR said that build (assembly) date is the actual date on which the car started being built.
Of course build dates and in-service (sale) dates are two different things. So the last RX-7 *built* for the US and the last RX-7 *sold* in the US could very well be two different cars (which is almost certainly the case, as this car has never been titled: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...79&page=1&pp=15).
