BTW, you can get lots of other useful info from Mazda Customer Support:

-Port Transfer Date - when the car was released for shipping
-Port of Entry
-Port Release Date - when the car was actually released from port
-In Service Date - when the car was actually sold (and when the warranty started)
-Original Selling Dealership
-Original Factory Configuration
-Any warranty work done on the car
-and probably lots of other things - I've found that they won't usually volunteer anything, you have to ask.

To add to the fun, the last built, last sold, and last imported are almost certainly three different cars.

I remember back in the Big List era some people tracking down the last few unsold '95s in '96 - that's about when I got into RX-7's. Kinda sad that dealerships had so much trouble selling only 500 of the cars that year!

BTW, I had the brake recall done at the dealership shortly after I got my car. The service rep ran my VIN number and gave me the printout with all that good info on it. I imagine most Mazda dealerships would be more than happy to do that for you for free.

Not only do VIN’s not match sequence of build date (probable due to color or options or such maybe done in batchs, thus VIN’s are registered then may be off by a few days in assembly); but ship dates have NO correlation to build dates. I have a 94 R2 built in March 94 imported into US for me in spring of 95. It was hard to find R2’s at the time.

Maybe someone can confirm this, but the sunroof (as in '526') and non-sunroof ('530') chassis were supposedly made on different lines, so if that is true it seems very conceivable that the vins could be out of order. And perhaps someone can clarify what 'build date' constitutes. Is that the time when the chassis is started to be put together, or when components are actually started to be slapped onto it? Anyways, thanks for taking the time to dig up that info tokamike.

I recall seeing a similar claim associated with an Ebay ad some months ago. It was a guy in New York who bought a car from a Mazda road show. Same color and options. He was asking a similar amount for the car then.

No doubt these, low milage, CYM low milage, last car, never driven, never registered FD's will interest people who day trade in cars. Each car has a slightly different following. Most of the real interest is in American muscle cars or German/ Italian high end sports cars. Rarely are Japanese cars ever considered collectible.

There is no such thing as a "1992 RX-7" in the United States, either FC or FD. This was covered ad nauseum in a recent thread.
would it matter even if my FD says 92 on it?

Where? The build date on the door jamb?

Post your VIN. $5 says there's a P in it.

Ya know, even though this car is so rare, if I had the money to buy it, I would drive it every day, no worries. It's a freeking car. 10k miles on a 10 year old car!? A car is ment to be driven, not oogled by people in a museum, ya know what I mean?

Jimlab is right, it isnt a matter of build date as YES these things started production as early as 91' but we dont have any 92' RX-7's.... the actual production runs were sold in America as 93/94/95. I love how often the argument comes up, it only took me getting involved once to learn... shouldnt take 3 times for others. (My car is a 94'but was build in 93' ...wow -- still an R VIN)

It'd be cool to have the last RX-7 but there isnt an easy way to tell which is which, as with most cars the VIN's arent completely seqeunced, only relative due to paint batching and differant chassis options (moonroof, R1, etc) I remember when I owned my Thunderbird, the last one to roll off the lines got a special take under the hood that instead of reading the VIN again it stated "LAST TBIRD".

the hiroshima plant is very advanced, they build rx7's, miata's, mpvs, proteges etc on the same line

I just noticed this but I thought that only the US 93' RX-7's had the sunroof (color keyed) and all US 94' + 95' RX-7's had moonroof (glass) tops as the options. How did I 95' get a sunroof -- or am I retarded?

The only models that had glass sunroofs (aka moonroofs) were the 1994 Tourings.
