knock sensor wire

knock sensor wire
I noticed a while ago (I don't drive the FD much) that my knock readings (PFC) were off the charts just under free rev and while cruising. I went to investigate and as I was pulling the knock sensor out, the wire on the harness side pulled out from the knock sensor connector.
I took the alternator off, so I had some room to work and cut the wiring back into the harness an inch or so and soldered in a new piece of wire. Then got the pin out of the connect and attached the new section of wire to it and reinstalled the connector. I still had crazy knock readings.
Fast forward to recently. I decided to change the knock sensor to see if it was bad. I bought one from Japan2LA (awesome transaction by the way) and again same exact problem.
So my question is...could the wiring be the issue instead of the sensor itself?
I am in need of getting the car tuned, but I can't bring it to a tuner with crazy knock readings. I can't find anything that would be rattling around and can't think of anything else to do other than get a J&S SafeGuard.

Just because your knock sensor shows high readings, it doesnt mean that the engine is actually knocking. Most times, crazy knock readings are caused by slop in the drivetrain.
What you need to do is find the knock threashhold for your engine. Every engine has one. Also, when you look at knock numbers, for the most part, the only ones that matter are the ones under heavy load. I like to keep mine under 25.

Thanks...I'm just being paranoid since my last motor popped when my knock reading were fine (the 92k mile motor just didn't like the 12 lb w/g pressure through a T04R). I'm trying to decide on setting up an appointment with PF Supercars or get in on the Steve Kan tuning day in SC.
