kind of strange rear-end action....

So I hadn't had the car out for a couple of months due to the weather but did so yesterday. Decided to go out and do some hell runs because, and this is weird, I've had dreams two or three different nights where I am driving my car and when I push on the gas...nothing happens.
Weird, I know.
So anyway, I took the opportunity of semi-decent weather and went out and got her warmed up real good, then headed off to my 'private racetrack' for some fun.
And...I noticed that when I was hitting it real hard, it almost felt like the rear end was moving, sort of 'crabbing' a bit....like the left side was ahead of the right side.

Now granted, I've been cruising in my 6100 lb FX4, 5 feet off the ground and all that lately, but....I don't remember my car feeling that...squirrely.

Odd description of what the rear end was doing.

Check tire pressures?
Time for a nut and bolt check.
rear sway bar, shocks, control arms.
Break out the FSM and torque down the rear suspension bolts.
Also check that the diff oil is full.

along with the above, check the rear strut tower bar mounting points. Is the car badly out of alignment?

anything loose in the rear suspension can lead to what you described. Careful as a loose suspension back there can lead to your rear end putting you out of control very easily

Time to get under the car and start wiggling parts to check how tight things are.

It seems unlikely to me that something wore out while the car was just sitting there. I'd vote for a low RR tire pressure.

My rear-end crabs a bit after sitting for a long time. But then I'm old. And a good micro-brew and cigar usually straightens things up.

+1 for checking tire pressures.

At your age, it will take more than a beer and a cigar to straighten "things" up

This is normal.

Rear-end action always feels kind of strange the first time.

lol.....ah, I love this forum!

I'll definitely go out and check the tire pressure(s) first and then start dinking around with rear suspension investigation.

It was fun running up to 140 or so again....I forgot what FAST was being in a 96 mph governed truck lately.....

Don't forget to check your diff mounts. They go bad faster than you think.

Dave W was RIGHT ON! The right rear was down to about 12 psi.
What a dumb-*** I was for NOT checking the air pressure before going out like that....I must be getting old.

Thanks again, guys.
