a killer rotary in The SCC Ultimate Street Car Challenge..congrats to Gotham Racing
If they knew about the event well ahead of time, meaning they weren't an alternate, then (hate to sound blunt since I like Steve) why they heck was it being thrown together at the last minute. Or what seemed like the last minute. Voting was months ago, with the final cars annouced how long ago? Why do a complete car makeover if you only had 2 weeks to do it? Go with what got you in the magazine to begin (unless something was wrong with the car).

after reading it, I even got the wrong "tone" of my post. I guess what I mean is I was really hoping Steve would do great at the contest but seemed like they were rushing things for some reason and it might have hurt there chances....that sounded better

Oh I have clear some thing out
the keep blow all the vaccum line off,(not motor)
The car was over heat on oil temp. (they use stock touring oil cooler . over 140 C
Too bad they did not perform too well in Road course too( due to the hot weather and new course for driver). I really think RX7 could score a lot of point over here....

maybe part of it had to do with the fact that they used frickin strips of rubber tape for tires!!
sidewalls that skinny might look "blingbling" but they probably made the car too damn edgy to be of any use,
and wasted the benifits of having such wide tires.
its like..
yay.. we've got as much rolling mass/metal as possible, super skinny and unforgiving sidewall tires.. and we didnt even fill up all that space with brakes...
so for the negative sounding tone..
but I'm just calling it as I see it.
P.S. wtf is up with blowing a vacuumline!?
you'd think they would have everything tied down properly...

I don't think they blew a vacuum line. From what one guy said, it sounded like he said the vacuum was lost due to something else engine related but who knows. Everything everyone is talking about is pure speculation until someone from the Gotham camp fills us in on what has gone down in the past 76 hrs.
Gotham has been busy getting everyone elses cars on the road instead of their own.
Including mine and dozens more on these forums.
That is why they had to wait. It is also dedication to their customers.
I am sure that seven will be in top shape now that they know where they stand. They have proven themselves on many of our vehicles for quite a while now.
We are fortunate to have a group of guys to help with our vehicles nowadays.
At least the seven is still in the competition after a dozen years.
How did the other cars do???

I doubt Steve got many practice runs on the new tires to figure out the best way to launch the car. The people you're talking about probably spent a considerable amount of time learning to launch their cars and, of course, only post their best numbers. It'd be interesting to see how impressive their first few passes were on the same set of tires.
What classification were Steve and also the Ari running in? Pro street car or something. I just seem to remember seeing pics of boths car with meaty rubber out back that looks like cheater slicks, DOT tires but really just for the track.
This smacks of the numerous times PFS was in magazines and something went wrong. It was good customer service on their part, but also a little bit of bad planning as well.

Having 285's doesnt mean anything, they had to run one tire for the whole event which means it would need to be a good road course tire. Its not like they were running drag radials or something. That car would spin the tires all the way thru 3rd gear with street tires on.
In addition if they did pop an apex seal on the dyno (which loss of vacume sounds like they did) then that would have killed thier power for the drag strip and also killed thier driveablilty and just about every other event.
Anyway, its all just pure speculation till they tell us exactly.
No matter what happened they were trying harder and doing more than any of us did. Congrats to them, its says a lot just that they made it there with the car considering the time they were dealing with
I definatly respect thier efforts no matter how it all went down

even though the car was throw together, I'm sure all the other competitors weren't 100% ready months in advance either. The car didn't do well for a reason we don't know yet...cuz we all know a tip top running fd can't lose
I could/would dominate most categories

First off, congrats to Steve and Gotham, regardless of he outcome. I spoke to him with T-minus 3 days to go and he was EXTREMELY busy working nearly round the clock not only to get this car prepared, but to take care of customer cars as well.
Several issues were working against the team in this competition. As everyone has said, practice and a stable configuration would have helped tremendously coming down the stretch. Unfortunately for Steve and company, they did not have this luxury.
Second, the car was only running a drivers side stock oil cooler, hence they were severely handicapped from the get-go from an oil cooling standpoint. Dual coolers (CWR if possible) are absolutely necessary in competitions like this one, especially given the warm weather conditions.
Third, the weather at the event was in the upper 80s to mid '90s. Hard temps for any performance car, yet alone a rotary that is sensitive to higher intake temps and possible detonation.
And finally, the car was owned by one of Gotham's customers, hence Steve's reluctance to really push the vehicle. If the car had been owned by Gotham I think you may have seen Steve push a little harder, but like everyone has said, we'll have to wait to hear from them. Kudos to everyone regardless of the outcome!!
