Question Keeping cabin heat down advice needed

I did some searching but couldn't find a direct answer to what I was curious about so here goes:

I been driving my FD for quite some time with just the following mods, pretty much stock:

Koyo radiator
Racing Beat 3'' down pipe
Racing Beat duel tip exhaust
Silicone hose job
Koni adjustable suspension (yellow)
Optima battery (yellow)
ACT Street Strip clutch
Cusco front sway bar
Cusco oil catch can
K&N drop in filter
Pettit AST
Apexi Power FC
Apexi turbo timer
Defi boost gauge
Defi boost controller
Manual fan switch
Momo steering wheel
Greddy shift ****
C's short shifter

With these basic mods I had moderate heat emanating from the shifter console and passenger side, it was quite normal to have sweat marks on my back when I get out of the car. My AC still functioned but some times at stop and go traffic I noticed the water temps rising slowly. (Later found out I had a small leak of coolant leaking into the housing)

Currently the car is at IRP in good hands getting a rebuild, this time I decided to go all out and add more power to the car as I wanted to in the past. My plan is to be pushing about 400 whp on a single turbo setup.

So here is the question, aside from heat wrapping the manifold, down pipe and having a vented hood is there another solution to reduce the heat inside cabin?

I understand there is a product called "Dynamat heat and sound dampener", I see mixed reviews on this product has anyone else used this product? if not any other products? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks ahead of time.

Are you sure your cat is not partially clogged? Perhaps some heat shield is missing around the cat?

I have noticed no changed in cabin temperatures since turning my stock FD into a fairly modified one. My center console has never been warm, let alone hot.

Passenger side... exhaust is on that side. Make sure the aluminum heat shield is in place under the car (above cat). Make sure there is some type of insulation in the shifter housing.

my center console, transmission tunnel, and short shifter are always HOT in my RX7

my transmission tunnel is always WARM in my RX8, and it is a 2010 model, 9months old-ish

I have come to accept the fact that is just how it is
most likely it is due to the twin turbos and the tunnel design
people with singles will have far less of a problem

but if your short shifter is all metal, it also heat soaks, my shift **** is metal as well.
I even lifted up the carpeting, installed heat resistant pads and its still warm
though the pads do help compared to before

There is a spray on heat shielding called LizardSkin. It's aplied with a paint gun and they also have one for sound control.

I forgot to mention I have a bonez mid pipe with a newly welded cat, I should probably check to see if my heat shield is still there, I'm pretty sure it is...

hmmm I'm planning to switch my carpeting out so when I do I'll make sure to check if everything underneath is not missing.

Will check next time I'm at the shop.

This what I was speaking of and I wanted to reduce it since it is annoying :\

I vaguely remember seeing a pic of a forum member putting high temp foil tape (?) in the tunnel, I'm thinking about trying this but I'm concerned that it may peel off in time and sit on top of the tranny :o

is there something that can be painted on with a brush or maybe a can of spray, I do not have access to a spray gun and compressor for this type of work :\

You can put the tape under the carpet as well.

Along with the other suggestions, Use this in the trans tunnel and firewall from the underside of the car:

A few things:

* tunnel shielding
* good synthetic fluid for the transmission (can drop temps significantly)
* "new" hi-flo cat
* make sure shifter has good rubber boots and insulation

Yep. I am using it on the areas of the tranny tunnel and near the driver's feet in the FD and in my Spec Miata. It does a great job of reflecting heat before it gets into the cabin.

Clean up the areas you intend to stick it to since it doesn't stick to dust, dirt, grease and crud. Cut it up into strips and stick it on.

Mahjik's list of stuff is the first step. I noticed a huge change just by changing trans oil to Redline MT 90 and replacing a torn shift boot.

I am planning to do this and maybe remove the interior carpet and do the same on the inside.

Here you go: http://www.eastwood.com/lizard-skin-...-gal-pail.html

Killer price imo. Just be very generous while applying it

I will check these out I may resort to not touching the floor under the carpeting to reduce complication. The heat shield in the trans tunnel sounds promising. I am considering covering up half way up the fire wall while I'm doing the trans tunnel as well.
