Holy hell, I didn't realize this thread had been hijacked.
Anyway, I got a call today from KDR telling me the car is ready. I've got a six hour drive ahead of me, so I can't make it down until tuesday. But I'm excited it's done. And I can't wait to drive it.
As far as the "Gotham Racing" car goes, I was just relaying info on what Skip told me. (BTW LUV94RX7 Skip is the new guy at KDR, he's kind of the public relations guy. He makes the phone calls, schedules appointments, does the bookkeeping etc. But he has been working on rotaries for 32 years, so he REALLY know his stuff). I have no idea why Gotham would have their car at KDR, or if it is even their own personal car or just a customer w/ Gotham parts. All i know is, Skip said "Gotham Racing car," so thats what I relayed.

This is true, but it isn't the whole story.
The more accurate statement is that the 99 RX7 makes 280 hp, not the turbos.... The jspec car has no precat, revised intake, and an efini-y-pipe, compared to the 93-95-spec US cars. If you put a DP, intake and y-pipe on an otherwise stock 93 FD, with brand new or brand-new working stock turbos, you'd likely gain 15-20 hp right there.
I think the idea that you could just bolt on 99 turbos and make an additional 25 hp over whatever setup you currently have is a little optimistic. The wheels are actually smaller, and the real benefit is likely better responsiveness, and some thermal efficiency increase at higher boost levels over the stockers.

Well, here is the final update in the blown engine saga.
I got it back today. 89 days after blowing the engine, I once again have a working, fully (almost) functional RX-7. BTW, it is very difficult to drive 5 hours home, after not having your car for three months, completely without boost. Not hard as in "Oooo, i really want to hit it" but actually, it is quite difficult to accelerate onto highways and such.
I have nothing but good things to say about everyone at KDR. They did an awesome job, they are really friendly, willing to help, and very dedicated. My one and only complaint about the whole experience is with the time delays. The majority of the delay was due to my turbos needing to be rebuilt, but some of it was they just had too much to do.
But good news, they are actually closing down for a few weeks at the end of this month (not closing as in going out of business, closing as in not accepting any more cars to do work on) so they can get caught up with everything they have lagging behind. They have projects like you wouldn't believe, and I think it's a good idea.
Skip said they were working towards being able to have a customer bring a car in, do whatever is requested, and send the customer home the same day. They have not been able to do that in a while according to him, because they always have 10,000 things going on.
I'll have pics up of the engine bay, the boost controller, and the car after I wash it thursday for any who are interested. And if anyone has questions about the engine replacement process, feel free to ask!

Isn't that the basis for higher horsepower on all of the more efficent aftermarket turbos such as the BNR and M2?
Also, in regards to the Jspec cars...didn't all models elimate the precat...the only thing that was different in the 99 series was the turbos?

As for the '99 J-spec Twins--they are truly are the SH*T. Mine were $2560 from SR Motorsports. They were on closeout last Fall. Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development sells the J-spec twins for $2910, but you must be a Mazdaspeed racer (which I have been since '98) to order from Mazdaspeed. Retail for J-spec twins are $3500+.
KDR built my motor from a Malloy Reman. I had Kim enlarge the intake exhaust ports (by 25%), oil and coolant passages, do the dowel pins, install silicone o-ring seals, and do the eccentric shaft mod.
I bought a Power FC with Commander from KDR Performance, and Dave installed a dyno-tuned map from a car with the same streetported motor and mods as mine. I've had excellent results with that map 7000 miles later. That map is tuned to 1 kg/cm^2 (14.22 psi), and FWIW, I've actually boosted @ 1.05 kg/cm^2 (14.9 psi) peak with no problems. FWIW, Dave doesn't install Power FC maps as a service, but I pressed him, and he relented.
I typically run 0.90 kg/cm^2 (12.8 psi) on the street, and 0.80 kg/cm^2 (11.4 psi) on the track. My Power FC's primary and secondary boost settings are identical. Wastegate solenoid base duty cycle settings are 62% for 0.80 kilo and 72% for 0.90 kilo.
Other mods are: GReddy Type 24 V-spec FMIC, Koyo rad, GReddy Airinx; downpipe, high flow cat, RB catback; 1300-cc secondary injectors; Nippondenso high-flow fuel pump; ACT pressure plate, Bonez sport clutch disk, M2 8.5-lb flywheel; '99 J-spec brakes fr/rr; SSR IA2s 9 x 17 with 255/40-17 tires; H&R springs, stock Showa R1 shocks, Eibach sway bars; Rx7 Store ETB; HC Power Deep Cycle minibattery.
You can also view my mods and pics @ the opentracking.com link in my sig below.
FWIW Rx7 Store did my installs--Zavier and Jason did a fine job. The only problems were a small coolant leak in a coolant hose near the rat's nest (which they fixed); and an oil pan leak which will be resealed under warranty. Rx7 Store does an especially fine job doing FMIC installs. The Koyo rad core, A/C condenser, A/C lines, and P/S lines are all relocated and re-routed beautifully, and my A/C works just fine in 95 F heat.
