haha!! you better put that NA-T on a diet if you want to keep up with your wife in the corners

at least you don't have backseats or HICAS to remove with your swap. Word on the street is Ash has some twins that will really open up a stock block with proper fuel...you should look into them. Because once that engine is in, you won't want to pull it again.

Good luck with the project.

My point, one of the MAJOR reasons the FD got such a bad rap for being unreliable was the very high maintenance cost, which led many owners to try and cut costs (and hence corners) and do the work themselves. You have full fleged Mazda Mechanics - some of which are VERY talented - who are absolutely *lost* when working on rotaries, esp. FDs. That should tell ya something. So when ppl start getting creative and trying to do things wayy past their expertise on their own, the crap hits the ceiling pretty darn fast.

So in short, it's great to work on your own car, but *within your own limits*. I'm not ashamed for a SECOND to say I paid for one of the best shops in the nation to work on my car several times... Sure I did a few simple installs, diagnoses and repairs (along w/ the help and guidance of friends and forum members), but knowing your limitations is key. And I gotta tell ya, when you do that, you'll have a MUCH more reliable and enjoyable FD in the long run. I know I have...

~Ramy

PS: It's funny, cuz there was a thread in this section discussing this very same fact not too long ago, and pretty much all the guys who had prob-free FD's said the same thing...
That's so true. That happens to me too when i started working on my Corvette Sting Ray. I try to save some money to fix it myself and in the end i make things worse and need to pay $1500 to the shop for repairs, labors and parts.

Ahem Ramy - I do all my own work and my car has been extremely reliable. I also did a bit of work on your car if I remember correctly....

Then again, your car is in the shop now so maybe I should shut up

That's funny...I have been at my wit's end a couple times where I had my UIM off and I was totally stuck(I couldn't figure out how to get at the injectors) that I put all the parts in a cardboard box in the front seat and called for a tow truck to take my car to Rick's Rotary to put it back together.

Steve, your car is basically stock. That's not "work" And like I said, sure I turned a few wrenches and got some help from friends (yourself included), but when it was over my head or I didn't think I could handle it/couldn't figure it out, I simply hit up PFS.

Oh and my car didn't go to the shop now b/c anything was wrong w/ it. It was running flawlessly before I shipped it. It's simply time for a change

Im still reading up on the workings of the FD's as i am not familiar with them, i downloaded and printed the FSM and it has already proven itself to be extreamly useful.

I have a few parts in my living room that need to be installed but i am waiting for a few more to get here befor i begin any of that. The parts that are waiting to go in are, fluidyne radiator, alum AST, 180 degree thermostat, 185 degree fan switch, and a downpipe coated in header wrap. im hoping all this lowers my underhood temps drastically!

Now for my question befor i show you all some pics of my new baby, im planning on installing all this with some new gauges (coolant temp, boost/vacume gauge and an oil PSI gauge) and im having problems figuring out the best way to install the oil psi gauge. Im thinking about using an oil filter sandwich adapter, however im not sure on where i can locate one that is not cheap ebay crap and will match my autometer z series sending unit(electric model not mechanical). any help or segustions would be greatly appreciated.

also on a small side note, i just installed a very high end stereo and had some problems with the head unit, how did you all overcome the fact that there is not mounting brackets behind the stock pieces. Pics of your installs would be great if you have them. I will post pics of mine once i take some.

-once again thanks for your time and i look forward to utalizing this forums vast knowledge and resources.

here are a few pics of my husbands Z32
yes i will be making my engine bay pretty too, probably with some powdercoating and polishing!

Wow, have to admit I am very jealous. That white FD looks amazing, but I'll take my VR anyday. Great looking Z car, engine bay looks stunning (god I need a life...........)

Once you get a new sending unit, the stock oil temp gauges works fine, it is accurate and has the proper range of psi. why clutter up the interior with gauges you don't need?

Thanks. We actually went a long time ago (3 or 4 years ago?). It's behind Kazbors, right. Sam used to work there. Anyhow, we normally go to the intmo meets on Thursday nights on Archer. We will try and make it out there though. I only see FD's in passing, so it would be cool to chat w/ owners.

I can't remember if there's a Kazbors there or not.....I believe there is as well as Block buster, Starbucks, ECT. ECT. I haven't been to an INTMO meeting in awhile as they were starting to be invaded by air rides, and Rice. Drawing allot of negative attention to the meet.

I know we're going to the June 17th Brevard Motorsports open track, but I don't know about the 10th. I had to work Tuesday night, but we will probably be at intmo on Thursday. My lil bro graduates from high school tomorrow in Citrus County, so hopefully we'll make it back in time. I know what you mean about the negativity of the intmo meets, but it's been better lately. The ricers stay on their own side, and no cops in quite a long while. Look forward to meeting you, though.

My wife and I will try to make it out there in the FD..... assuming I can get the engine out of my z32 tomorrow!

Either way I know she will be out there, she has been wanting to meet some of the local FD owners.
