Just put in my Jspec tranny today....

Just put it in. I dont know how your tranny feels but my original tranny felt like ***. Like for instance coming from a 15mph to a stop I couldn't even stick it in 1st without it grinding. It doesn't even do that anymore. I also had problems power sifting into 3rd from 2nd and now it just slides right in. No more 5th gear problems and I noticed that shift from 4th to 5th there was about a 400rpm drop vs 800. Overall Im happy. Took a while to install though. about 7 hrs total because I had to get several tools I didn't have.

You didn't have a 14mm, 12mm, 10mm, adjustable wrench and a Screw Driver?

Had to get loger extensions and the pivot thingy to reach the bolt on top of the bell housing.

I had a jspec tranny once....then i blew it @ 120 mph. I liked it because it was geared a little shorter, well at least 5th gear was a noticable difference.

You can get them for around 400-450 bones here in CA. If you have trouble finding one at that price, shoot me a PM and I will point you in the right direction.

Since Lupe hasn't seen the inside of a stockish engine bay since he last changed usernames, he forgets that on a stock car the top bellhousing bolts are a bear to reach. So the best way is to use a wobble socket and a 18" extension. With that you can get to them from under the car, by running the extension along the length of the tranny.

It's been awhile but I remember how much of a pain those top passenger side bolts are to reach. That's why only one gets put back in

I found out on my 7 i could use a swivel head gear wrench with a cheater bar and get the two on top easier.

All pre-99 "j-spec" transmissions are the same as the USDM ones.
