well before i left my car overheated *smoking from overflow tank only* and it sprayed coolant out of the cap of the filler neck what would cause it to do this?

 

over-pressurized! could be a bad coolant seal. you need to get it tested asap! tow it to a good rotary mech.

 

what does it take to fix this is it major?

 

You are 18 with no previous mechanical experience and you own an FD3S?

Apparently you didn't do your research. That problem is going to cost you 30,000$ US dollars to fix. I suggest you sell the car - it's terminal.
