Just put in ACT S/S and RB 9.5lb Alum Fly, review.
I just had put in a ACT S/S clutch and a RB 9.5lb aluminum flywheel. I weighed the RB fly at exactly 12 lbs with counter weight, haven't weighed the stock one yet.
1st impression was the clutch was like an on and off switch. The car reved a lot faster and was more 'zippy'. I'am still breaking in the clutch so I haven't even done a launch or even gone into my 2nd turbo yet.
The first time I got into the car I stalled it in the parking lot, turned it on again and stalled it again, lol. 3rd time is a charm and I got it going and from then on it took a whole 2 mins to learn the feel of the new set up. I like it a lot better than the stock feel. The clutch seems more sure of itself, it's probably cause my stock one was going out and it always felt like it was on the verge of slipping and sometimes did.
To all the people that have ever stated the 9.5 lb flywheel is not streetable is a WUSS! My god it's so easy to drive now. So I have to rev a little bit higher from a stop, big deal. Seriously I was a little bit intimidated from people telling me storys about how it's harder on the street and what not. That all went out the window, if you have a chance to get the 9.5lb flywheel with a street disc clutch, DO IT!
This is the setup the FD should have come with from factory. This setup seems much easier to drive than the stock set up. These upgrades were definetly worth it. 100 miles so far on the setup, waiting till around 500 miles before I let lose.

I agree, it's one of the best mods I have done to the car. It makes the engine feel much more responsive. The only time I miss the stock flywheel is when I'm stucking in stop and go or parallel parking on a hill.

My only concern with the amount of city driving I do is that I would wear the disk faster by having to use more revs and modulating the throttle.
Any long-term lightweight-flywheel-city-drivers who can shed some light on that?

I've had the same clutch/flywheel setup on my 93 for about 2 1/2 years. I've probably put almost 20k miles on it since then.....alot of it in stop and go DFW traffic.
You don't really need to over-rev it to get it going. Like street king said, it take a little bit of getting used to. I'm so used to it by now, that I start from a stop just like before, you just have to figure out the engagement point and let the pedal out accordingly from there and feed it the appropriate gas - left foot out, right foot in!!
I taught my non-stick driving wife to drive stick with this setup. It really frazzled her at first, but now any time she drives any other type of manual vehicle she thinks it's a breeze compared to the 7!

Go for it, man. I've put about 50k miles on my act street/strip and lwfw combo, and they're good to go. As you know I've had my motor out once or twice, so have been able to inspect them often .

After the break-in, the S/S clutch feels almost like stock. It is quite a bit grabby, so you will have to adjust for that. I have to slip it a little more than what I remember at stoplights and when launching. The flywheel kicks ***. Like I was telling Damon, it's probably the best mod I've done for competition driving .... and fun factor too. Anyone who has driven my car always says the same thing.... "man, I've never seen a car climb rpms and the speedo that fast before."
As far as city driving, it's fine. And if you're truly worried about clutch wear, it will still engage if you release at the 'normal' spot .... but, the car will bog, and feel like a Honda Civic.

Damon, I've had mine for over 2 years and it seems to be holding up fine. The bulk of my driving is stop and go. I get on the highway and use 4th, 5th only a couple times a month. I don't slip it too much moving off. I can smoothly pull away from 1000rpms pretty consistantly. I will be pulling the motor before the end of the summer and will post some pics of the clutch/flywheel when I do.

I have been very happy with my ACT SS clutch and SR 9.5 lb flywheel. I bought the package on sale from SR earlier this year for $799 including bearings and counterweight.

Have the RB alum flywheel with a new stock clutch for 2 1/2 years. No issues yet and the car is more lively. Do need to slip the clutch up hills from a stop but other than that easy once you get used to it.
