HAH! Welcome to the club, now you have been through the first test. Now the second test is waiting on the rebuild or doing the rebuild yourself. It does suck though, too bad. How many miles were on this engine?

****'n tell me about it, ive benn through 2 motors in the last year. 3rd one on the way, the only good thing about blowing ur motor is getting 3mm, if u want, and porting! but other than that it sucks ***... and makes quite the devistation on your bank acount. I think im done after this summer, time to move on.

I think it's stories like this that give rotaries a bad rep for longevity.

You guys need to start investing in some tuning and stop replacing motors.. Almost sounds like the "cool" thing now is to have a blown motor... These cars are VERY reliable, but dont respond well to makeshift maps and 3rd grade tuning..

I paid 3500 for a 2002 LS1 from a WS6 trans am (30k miles) with the 4l60e tranny and pcm , harness , accessories etc. I spent another 4000 with www.hinsonsupercars.com for everything to mount it up and get it running. I already have my motor and tranny in the car, harness run , just waiting on the cooling , driveshaft , intake and fuel system from hinson and Ill be done. I must say the motor fits like it was made for the car.

Having a rotary is cool , I enjoyed driving my car while it still had the rotary in it. The thing that made me switch motors is reliability of the rotary when you start modding it. The ls1 comes around 325 hp bone stock , installed in the rx7 the car is close to the same weight as the car with the stock rotary motor. I spent around 8k for the complete setup to get me 325hp on a stock motor. After cam , heads etc who knows what kind of RELIABLE power you can achieve. I know there are die hard rotary fans who flame guys like me who do something different but hey its my car and this is what I want. Another thing is , the car isnt getting hacked in any way ,if I one day wanted to switch it back to a rotary it wouldnt be any sweat. No cutting or welding involved , just bolt up stuff.
Same weight , tons more power and off the line torque....why not?

it actually is combination of driving it too much or not driving it enough at least that is what i have found. i also think it has alot to do with the turbos but that is just me and if you do preventitive work and keep your car in good shape it will work for you but then again you can do all of that and still have the engine pop on you later jimmyd
