Just installed my Rotaryextreme light kit

Hello all. I just installed my Rotaryextreme light kit. The kit is very nice and the lights are far superior than my old IPF lights with the RE Amemiya kit. I'll take some photos of the lights when I get the shells back from the painters early next week. I'll take some pics of the beams tomorrow night after I get them aligned better. Right now my high beams are looking for birds in trees!!

I only did one thing different than Chuck on the wiring. I didn't want to run extra wire from the battery so I did my relay system a little different. I use two relays-one on each side. Here is how I did it:

stock connector #1: headlight 3-pin
-----------------------------------------
Red w/ yellow stripe : Bosch relay pin 87a (low beam factory)
Red w/ white stripe : Bosch relay pin 85 (high beam factory)
: Hella high beam postive
Black : Hella high beam ground (stock ground)

stock connector #2 : headlight motor 4-pin
-----------------------------------------
Black w/ white stripe : Bosch relay pin 87 (stock +12V supply)
Black : Hella low beam ground & Bosch relay pin 86

and that leaves only one Bosch relay pin an accounted for ....
pin 30 : Hella low beam positive

so to recap the Bosch relay:
-----------------------------------
pin 85 : stock #1 & red w/ white stripe
pin 85 : stock #2 black & Hella low beam ground
pin 30 : Hella low beam positive
pin 87 : stock #2 black w/ white stripe
pin 87a: stock #1 red w/ yellow stripe

cool, bring on the pics. From your description, I take it you didn't spring for the extra cash to get the HID option? That is a lot of cash for lights.

I didn't go for the HID to begin with because I want to see how the light pattern is with these lights and go from there. I might decide I want HID later. However I don't use the 3rd gen as a daily driver anymore. Even though I'm thinking about making it a daily again ....

Do you have a pic of what part you had to cut?

Thanks

Hey, what size bulbs are the lights using for lowbeam and highbeam. I would think it's a 9006 correct?

No wiring harness

you only need to worry about 4 wires on either side of the car

install is ok, not too difficult

beam adjustment has to be B4 you put the cover on i believe, unless you are going to do like me and make it a screw on cover.

Cutting the metal was time consuming. You have to have to right tool, i used a 4" circular grinding wheel thinggie and it went like butta!!!

Hard? Well are you mechanically oriented? Do you have access to tools and know how to use them? If so it should be easy, else let someone else do it. I'll get some good pics real soon. Cut the metal with a cutoff wheel or a airsaw if you are good enough to hold it straight. Either way air tools are the only way. If you have ever seen the RE Amemiya kit you know that wiring is a piece of junk so not having a wiring harness isn't looking that much. The bracket in this kit is much stronger. My wiring was just a little more because I wanted it all to be integrated with the stock wiring.

veering a tad offtrack, but which FMIC doesnt need a battery relocation? I am looking at mainly the Blitz and Apex, since with those two, i can run a miata or small deep cycle battery, instead of relocating to the bins? I really wanna get those lights, but need them to work with the rest of my set up. Thanks for any help!!

Ok, i gave it a test run with the regular lamps to see, WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!

I still have to make some minor mods because the housing is hitting the lamp a bit so i am going to trim the housing a tad. Other than that it's great. The cutoff is very sharp and the lights are good so far. Aiming them is not bad, the housing comes off by taking off 4 screws. Aiming is done by holding a 11mm wrench on one end and a screw driver on the other.

On Tues i'll post full pics when i install the HID's

I have to spend the money on power mods, ah don't make me spend them on lights!!! I don't have the money as it is!!! Well guess I would rather not hit anything in the road and lose all this money on my investment.
Anyone want to start a group buy through the RX-7 store on the regular lights or with HID lows???
Come on, I know you guys do. I'm in.
What do you think Jason???

PS guys can't wait for pictures of both!!!

count me in if you can get the ball rolling.
I was planning on getting the rotary extreme kit, but I would be interested in any of the glassed in kits, just so long as they work kick *** and not just look kick ***.

there is already a thread started in the group buy center, but I don't think that many people look there on a regular basis.

the thread:

They are also meant to be as light as possible. The popup headlights are at least 50% heavier than the sleek light setup. :p
